The ring road of Cluj from Apahida (airport Cluj) untill Feleac (old road Cluj - Turda) is a disaster. Several parts are falling apart. Seems that the Hungarian constructor has to rebuild it to make it save again.

Vegyepszer is bankrupt AFAIK, so they cannot repair what they did. The Gov is trying to recuperate the losses through the bank guarantee.

A3 Gilau - Mihaiesti bids in March 21st

It seems that the works on the Motorway A3 in between Gilau and Mihaiesti will continue.
Bids on this project will be open on the 21st of March as the company SC Drumuri şi Poduri Gheorgheni
has withdraw some of its complaints about provisions.

The strech of 8.7 km of Motorway is estimated over 316 million lei (Euro 73 million)

Source

Hopefully the winning company can make a quick start. Somewhere in the 2nd half of 2012?

I've uploaded some pics I took last September on the well known Romanian road named Transfăgărășan (map).

Inca de la intrarea pe DN7C de la Bascov am intalnit o problema:

Transfagarasan is closed?

Luckly I've met a policeman that made a phone call and told me that the road is open.

Pitesti - Curtea de Arges:

This sign says that it's closed only during the night:

Poienari fortress:

Some tunnels...

Nice arch bridge. We will also reach that road on the upper part of the picture:

View from above. We came from that road:

Weird tunnel interior:

Vidraru dam is close:

Vidraru dam:

You can easly see the maximum water level:

There is a short section that looks like it was bombed...

But other sections have been repaved recently:

The scenery is great...

You have to stop here for some sight seeing and to breath the beautiful mountain air:

The road will lead us up there...

Short demo for what's about to come:

Entrance in the longest tunnel in Romania, Capra Tunnel, 950 m:

Inside the tunnel:

On the other side, Bâlea lake:

Transfăgărășan as everybody knows it:

End of DN7C at the interchange with DN1 Sibiu - Brasov:

That's all. According to the time when the pictures were captured we did 3h45m from Pitesti (Bascov) to DN1.

Beautiful pictures Bogdymol, tnx! My hands are itchy to grab the steering wheel and drive on that road again

LOL @ that Dutch Merceder driver. I bet he has seen TopGear and convinced his wife/gf to go to Romania. Most likely he spent time holiday on a Dutch camping near by.

The Vidin - Calafat Bridge, Romanian approach. There appears to be a toll plaza.

Or a border crossing check-point... Project for the bridge and adjoining infrastructure is quite before plans for joining Schengen. And moreover, it still is quite probable that the bridge will be opened before Romania and Bulgaria join Schengen.

Can infrastructure financed by EU be tolled?

Yes, it can. Actually our gov. is thinking about tolling future A1 motorway, founded by the EU (85%).
