Most probably this route, which doesn't enter 2 times in Moldova.

Expect to loose about 30-60 minutes at every border crossing.

Read again what I wrote. For the moment, NW has 2 motorways U/C (and indeed all existing motorway construction works and investments ATM), while SW has 0 km of motorways (U/C or operational).

BTW: an interesting graph showing the geographic distribution of motorway infrastructure:

Such maps are nice, but don't say much about a country where a motorway "network" is still in its infancy.

It's actually a direct result of EU/Romania motorway strategy to link Constanta and Bucharest to western European network: a NW<->SE backbone of motorways.

Romania needs lots of infrastructure, and everyone is hoping his/her region will be priorities, which is impossible at the same time for all regions. For the moment, there is a lot of talk concerning various projects, but the reality is that actual activity is currently happening only on A1 sections started 2 years ago.

I don't think that he knew about the forum organisation... my oppinion is that he got to the Romanian section via google or a direct link, and didn't knew how to go "one step back" to the forum.

Are there any plans to connect Romania and Ukraine south of Moldova (around Galati)? Currently the only way to cross there is to pass a few kms through Moldovan territory.

Nice map but is there a bridge planned near Izmail or will it be a dead end?

I don't know. I guess, that the whole project is only an idea.

I posted a map a couple of pages ago where the planned Galati-Braila motorway (and new Danube bridge) shows up:

What is in red is planned for completion, what is pink is planned for tendering and start of works. Of course, this is extremelly "generous", we've seen it before. Even if half of it were done, and it's still good. Green is current motorway network, and yellow is U/C.

As you can see, C IX changed route to Iasi and further north.
C IV south has been put "on hold".
There is a strong priority on PPPs, for Comarnic-Brasov, A0, Craiova-Pitesti and Ploiesti-Iasi (Pascani).
Most of EU money will be put into Sibiu-Pitesti, but in any case as much as necessary to complete it.
Transilvania Motorway completion in the coming 4 years looks unrealistic.
That motorway section will be connected to either A2 (CIV) or A5 (CIX) or both, and will go all the way to Moldovan border.

This has been discussed for some years but since there is no funding, it's unclear whether and when it will be done, especially since there is no EU funding for that, yet, though it could fall under EUs Danube strategy where there is some funding. Also, the Chinese have looked look at it wih some interest, since the area has some large ports, maritime too, and could make an entry gate into Europe, but nothing happened concretely to start the project.

Well nothing on that map suggests a new connection to Ukraine, just to Moldova. I've searched a bit on Ukrainian pages and they claim that Romania is stalling the project, even the ferry connection.

That motorway would reach a triple RO/MD/UA border near Galati, and thus can be continued into Ukraine. I don't know whether there are plans to continue that in Ukraine, which currently has awful infrastructure in the region, almost unusable. They could start with paving the roads there first, before any other more costly projects.

As for the ferry, I have no idea about that. Maybe others can help.

I don't know why they say Romania is stalling the project, because it's not like there is abundent funding. The authorities have made several attempts to find investors, to no avail so far.

Good point. A few years ago, Romanian forum user Panda made a trip in that area from Reni to Odessa. Roads were indeed in nearly destroyed condition. There is hardly any traffic in that region. Both countries have much higher priorities than some backwater south of Moldova.
