All of it is either in progress or already finished. The portion between Dej and Baia Mare is almost finished, and between Baia Mare and Satu Mare works are underway. Also, AFAIK DN19 between Satu-Mare and Oradea has been modernised, but I don't know if works are done yet.

Interesting stats: A3 Bucharest-Ploiesti took over only 25% (8,500 cars/day) of the traffic on DN1, mostly due to poor motorway connections in Bucharest. Once Bucharest connections are completed, the traffic is expected to double, at least!

Hehe you make it sound like more traffic congestion is a good thing

Shouldn't it be that if you build more roads and other transport networks, then existing modes and nodes will be decongested?

8,500 cars/day are very less for a motorway!

Yes, but to build a 2x2 motorway for less than 20,000 cars/day is unusual.

A3 has very few exits, so it is only useful for long-distance traffic for the time being.

And it lacks a proper link with Bucharest's road network (it just links with the ring-road for the moment). And it is noticeably longer than DN1. Only after the remaining section is completed and new exits are added, will it prove to be usefull. And after a brach towards Moldova is built, it will attract A LOT more traffic than today. That 2x3 section might actually have a purpose by then.

The other funny thing is that the national road, which goes in parallel to the motorway, retains the traffic of a motorway ~ 26 k cars, while the motorway proper retains the traffic of a national road. All because of poor capital connections of the motorway (connection works were suspended last year until God knows when), while the national road has very good connections, including with the Bucharest Airport.

Nadlac-Arad LOT 1 (22 km) is retendered after the contract was terminated last year in Sept. Deadline for completion: 12 months from start of works.

It's the yellow line. The red line will be completed this summer, the blue line is completed & opened, and the black line is opened, but not completed 100%.

Construction of the connecting section (Makó - Nagylak, 23,1 km) on the Hungarian side has officially begun today, after the foundation stone was laid in the morning.

Scheduled completion date: 09/2014 (other sources says: 12/2014 )

Don't forget the necessity to build a link to the H Coanda Airport. Today all traffic towards the airport has no alternative than DN 1.

I have my doubts whether the entire 96 km from Bucureşti to Piteşti-Est opened at once. Very large motorway openings in one day were not common in most of post World War II-Europe, especially not communist Europe.
works started at 04.02.1967. Opening end 1973. Seems that some sections were opened since 1972
