EU Commission approves EUR 2 billion for new infrastructure projects in Romania

The new projects for which funding is approved at 85% are the Bucharest Metro (M4 and M5 lines) and the Sebes-Turda motorway project (A13). The Romanian Transport Ministry will send the EU the reimbursing documents by September.
Source

This is very good news. A lot of the money that has not been spent by Romania from EU funds will be directed to infrastructure (EUR 2 billion). In addition, by approving this projects, the EU will also cover the costs already incurred by the Romanian Government on works carried out on M4 and M5 in the past years, which means more money for additional projects.

Bacau by-pass is not part of Pan European Corridor IX. Corridor IX (with 85 % funds from UE) splits near Tisita and passes the following cities : Tecuci, Barlad and Husi and exits Romania at Albita-Leuseni passing border points.

Bacau is part of a future highway (for now without UE finance in terms of 85 % financial support) following Siret valley and passing through Adjud, Bacau, Roman, Falticeni and Suceava and exists at Siret.

There is a confusion (even at central authorities) between railway corridor IX which passes through Bacau and goes to Iasi and road corridor which doesn't go to Iasi and follows Barlad river valley.

I quote myself to give this information also to Romanian forumers:

There have been attempts to introduce a ferry between the port seen in the picture (Isaccea) and Ukraine, but authorities wasn’t willing to change the border status from local to international, so it didn’t come to reality.

I will always think that a bridge would be much better, as I told in the Romanian forum some years ago, but its design would be kind of complicated, and I do not see it in a near future. The bridge would be best located between the two towns said, as if it were to the east, it would affect Danube Delta, and if it was to the east, the detour for E87 would be worse.

This doesn’t mean that Brăila-Smîrdan bridge shouldn’t be built. Of course it should, so then not only drivers from Black Sea litoral would be able to reach Ukraine much easier with my proposed bridge, but also drivers from Bucharest and Western Balkans, with both bridges.

There were discussions about changing the route for C IX.

BTW: negociations for A0 South and Craiova-Pitesti motorway contracts are well advaced, while negociations for Comarnic-Brasov motorway contract will start tomorrow.

4 formal bids submitted today for the financing and construction of the Craiova-Pitesti motorway (121 km):
  1. China Communications Construction
  2. Spedition UMB-Tehnostrade
  3. Vinci - Strabag - Aktor
  4. Impregilo - Salini

The cheapest offer will be selected.

A0 South and Comarnic-Ploiesti will be upcoming. It seems we are really heading for some major concessions this year.

Those bids you wrote were submitted for Comarnic-Brasov highway, not the Craiova-Pitesti route. Today is the last day companies can submit their bids for the latter and PM Ponta said that there 5 interested companies. We will find out soon who the companies are.

Two branches of the same company can make a consortium? And in Consortium 4, there are 7 members but only 3 companies. By the way, if it is good for Spain (and for Romania, of course), I hope OHL gets the contract.

I don't know if they are part of the same group of companies, but the fact they are different companies (even with a common beneficiary owner) I guess allows them to participate in a tender as a consortium.
