Plus, "Vám/Zoll" should rather read "Határellenőrzés/Border control".

The only place they can physically catch you is at the Giurgiu-Ruse bridge. When you try to pay the bridge toll they check to see if you have the RO vignette and fine you on the spot if you don't. Most of these fines are for people just nipping over the border from Bulgaria for a few hours in the mistaken belief that the area just over the border is exempt.

The biggest problem with the Romania vignettes is the inability to actually buy them. I wanted to go into Romania for an hour or so a few years ago, but the only place selling vignettes didn't accept anything except Romanian Leu and Euro. It didn't accept HUF, didn't accept cards - what use was it?
I found that the huts selling the HU vignette on the HU side of the Cenad border would not even accept HU money in Hungary. Only Leu or Euro. That has got to be illegal.

Is there a similar trafic sign at the Romanian side of the border, that these particular cargo needs to take the old, parallel crossing to H?

Not only illegal but quite illogical as well. Where did you get this info?

Yes, there are signs (smaller size, though).

That's funny. I stopped at Nagylak before exiting Hungary and the lady only accepted EUR or HUF.

Oh okay, I didn't knew that it was meaning the same thing. Here in France a deputy is not the same thing...

Not tried Nadlac but at Cenad HUF was not welcome. Going into Romania, all they wanted was Euro.

I buys all my vignettes online these days so I don't have to worry about having the right money.

Romania will not get into Schengen for at least 10 years from now, so the huge parking and 10x10 border lanes will warrant their cost. I would not complain about that, but about the fact that the damn A1 is still years away from completion. I drive often on Sibiu-Pitesti and the number of trucks is growing by the day to the extent that it is becoming unbearable to drive small cars. There are long columns of trucks on a 1x1 road which is simply crazy. The real accomplishment would be if they built Sibiu-Pitesti motorway . This border connection is important but it is not much for the main traffic in Romania. They started enlarging Valcea-Sibiu to 2x2 in some sections to cope with the truck traffic, but that is just a temporary solution until the motorway gets built. Maybe someone should post pictures of that. It's starting to look interesting already on some completed sections because they are expanding the road foundations into the mountain rock adjacent to the river Olt which is thus partly losing its natural bed.

Never read about this and it sounds quite weird. When have works been started? How many sections, how long, where?
