Why even bother ?!

Romania takes back bid to join Schengen.

Quote:
The meeting of the European Council for Justice and Home Affairs, JHA, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, will not tackle the admission of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen passport-free area, with a decision being postponed for the year-end.

Official sources unveiled that France, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland were the countries that vetoed Romania and Bulgaria’s Schengen bids to be tabled on the agenda of the JHA Council due on October 8-9, with the French side being the most vehement. The same sources said that Romania finally agreed on the postponement and did not insist on its bid, considering that a potential negative vote would have prompted the resumption of the entire accession procedure.

What the hell this has to do with our roads?

On topic and on subjet of A3, Gilau - Nadasel, a nice video taken yesterday:

The video shows only this area, between Somes river and Vistea forest, an area where there is still missing a authorisation for clearing/ cutting down the forest.

I guess the authorisation is missing for the area which is not shown on the video - b/n the end of the video and Nadalesu!? Is it expected that the clearing could be done this winter? If not, it would be possible to open the section in 2016.

The new Nadlac border crossing will remain for many years. It was not just waste of money

No, authorisation is missing only for the forested area, less than 500 meters, for clearing the forest. Works are in place on the other side, almost at the same stage, we just don't have a movie made over there.

Interchange between motorways A1 and A11, nearby Arad:

In the distance is Arad Airport, the city, and the motorway heading south to Timisoara. To the right is the motorway to Nadlac (Hungary), and behind is A11, which will eventually be continued to Oradea:

A3: Bucharest-Gherghitei Street – Bucharest Ring Road 6.5km (April 2012 to >= 2015) [contract canceled] – ? – map

I found an info which is strange though:

Quote:
3.2 km to be opened in 2016; 3.3 km to be opened in 2017 (canceled contract, re-tender in progress).
There's no interchange at km3.2..3.3. I guess "2017" is the contract deadline (or derived from the contract execution period) and the entire 6.5km section will likely be opened in 2017 at the earliest!?

Actually, there is an interchange on the urban section of A3, with Popasului street in Voluntari, which is aproximately where the border between the finished half of the lot and the not even started half is (the limit is actually before the ramp and off-ramps for the interchange begin).

With this in mind, I still very much doubt a partial opening is possible. Popasului street offers very poor acces to Bucharest itself, via the already gridlocked Pipera (the Voluntari past) bussiness neighbourhood, with outdated infrastructure, so it's best if they just delay the opening until everything is ready. Even then, gridlock will very much be a reality, but at least down from there all the streets will be 2+2 (minus the stray parked cars of course )

Have works been started in September?
And no, no works. We're pretty sure that they won't start this year as CNADNR don't what to make any advance payment cause they won't be able to reimburse from 2007-2013 funds. So all the works will be payed and delivered under 2014-2020 funds, and since we don't have all the paper work for them we will have to wait for next year.

I am confused: is section Cunta – Saliste open for traffic? It doesnt appear neither on Google Maps, nor on Openstreetmap.
A1 will be ready from Nadlac to Sibiu in May 2016, right?

No, this part is closed for now (only 9 months after opening) because of the poor work that has been done and some parts of a bridge are very fragile...

The closing has started on the last month and should have been for only one month but it's still closed for now (if I'm not mistaking)...

For most of it, yes, it will be possible : later this year, Timisoara-Lugoj will open, but there is still Lugoj-Deva who is supposed to be finished in may 2016, but I read here that the are problems on some of the portions...

Anyway, wait&see, I also hope that it will be possible!

No, it is not open for trafic. Actually it looks like this:

Landslides in that area and bad construction are the reason for closure and it is not clear which solution they will implement and who will pay for it.

And no, there will be no Nadlac - Sibiu in 2016. There are 6 kilometers between Margina I/C and Ohaba I/C where 3 tunnel were ask through enviromental decision. And for their construction we will need a new selection process which it didn't start yet.

So the earliest posible date for a complete Nadlac - Sibiu route is late 2017. If all goes well.

According to this:

Bucuresti - Pitesti was open in 1973 and a small bypass at Pitesti in 2007 and Bucuresti - Ploiesti in summer of 2012.

In other news, yesterday were open bids made for construction of two small portion of A3 at Comarnic and Rasnov - the red ones in this picture:
