I read another article about the system and I think it will be a little different from the Hungarian one. I think they will use the existing cameras on major roads or will install new cameras which will basically scan the number plates, confront them (automatically, I understand) with the data base registrations, and only those cars who do not match in the data base will be stopped by the police.

The head of the National Motorway Company here declared that all the remaining sections (about 250 km) on Corridor IV will be tendered and (hopefully) contracted this year.

Yep, Adrian Ionescu said it'll be tendered this year. All the the rest of the sections will. At least, that's what they are planning.

As I already mentioned on the Romanian forum, the Tg. Mures-Brasov section of AT is also contracted.

We're seeing some nice progress in the last couple of weeks with contracted sections.

Yes, but that section is under re re re negotiations and we will wait to see what is the outcome.
It can turn into a PPP or it can go to another contractor and so on.

Yes, indeed. And we may have the nice surprise to see the whole Corridor IV contracted over this year. They are preparing some sections for works tendering in the coming months (like Nadlac-Arad and Timisoara-Lugoj).

Well, yes, but it's still contracted, even if works have not started there. And if it'll turn into a PPP, then it'll go from one form of contracted section to another.

PS: The only reason that section is not U/C is because the government doesn't have money to pay for works on that section as well.

What about the motorway Timisoara-Serbian border? As I read on Serbian fora and newspapers they want to make a motorway from RO to Montenegro, from there to the Adriatic sea. Serbian authorities called it for now corridor 11.

We have discussed about that. That section is not yet included in the official motorway plans in Romania, because as I understand Corridor 11 is a new proposal which has not yet been approved by the European Commission for financing. However, when Corridor 11 is approved by the Commission (and I am sure it will), it will be included for funding on all of its lenght so Romania will include it into its plans as well (and probably lobby for its approval by the Commission).

I expect the Romanain section to be started after 2013, and finished by 2016, roughly when the Serbian and Montenegrin sections will be completed. The Romanian section is the easiest to build anyway, being in a plain, while the Serbian and especially the Montenegrin sections will be a pain because they will go through mountains on long sections.

Well, it's not very short, I heard plans are for about 90-100 km. You can actually look up the route of the future Timisoara-Vrsac on the map posted above.

Yes, it's A1 I was referring to, indeed, because the other part of Corridor IV (A2), is entirelly contracted for the remaining 70 km to be constructed and delivered in 2011.
