M43 between Szeged and Makó opens in October, well, minus the Tisza bridge. :-( See the Hungary Motorways thread for details.

Say "THANK YOU" to my secret source. New pictures from Constanta bypass, much appreciated! If we play nice, I'm sure we'll get more in the future.

Enjoy!

The FIRST girder on the entire project goes in (bridge at DN3 interchange over the Valul lui Traian monument - access belt)

The first girder (overview)

The girders are installed using a SINGLE crane because of the monument

5 more girders to go on this 30m long bridge...

And the second girder goes in...

And PRESTO! All girders in, later that day!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Girders on the motorway itself

Preparing for installing the first girder (out of 38) on the main bridge at DN3 interchange (over the monument)

Installing the first girder main bridge at km 11+014 (you can see the crane)

During the installing phase......

And presto! The second day all girders installed on one way for the bridge at km 11+014!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some nice shots at two other bridges

Encasing and reinforcing: the bridge at Poiana interchange km 5+700

Finished elevations: bridges at Poiana interchange km 5+700

Overpass at Ovidiu interchange km 0+152

Bridge at Ovidiu interchange km 0+152 right next to a Rompetrol gas station

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some other bridges...

Footbridge foundation at Ovidiu interchange km 0+000

Bridge at km 2+615 - ready! Waiting for installing girders

Bridge at km 4+409 - ready! Waiting for installing girders

Bridge at km 7+296 - ready! Waiting for installing girders

A new section of motoway (km4-km5) ready for asphalting

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The bridge at km 21+571 over the railway (the last bridge on the motorway, right before the junction with the project representing the bridge over the Danube Canal)

Boring some pillars

----------------------------------
PS: I don't know all the English equiv. for the Romanian "construction language". I hope I did well.

Bechtel just announced officially they will open 10 km of AT (Turda-Campia Turzii) in late October.

3c (64 km) which is now at 40% completion will be opened next year, and there will be also works on 3a (west of Cluj). This sounds much better than I expected (that is works to continue at 3c alone and oepning on this section in 2012 only).

That's extraordinary news! Where did you get them? Are they 100% reliable?

Here
These are statements of Bogdan Sgarcitu, spokesman of Bechtel, after a meeting with the Road Company. It seems the government will finance TM in 2011 as well.

I almost can't believe it. More than 150 km to be delivered next year!

For the moment let's just hope so. I still can't believe they'll open the entire 64km-long 3C section next year. There are quite a few complicated issues left like moving utilities and some oil probes, as well as finishing all the expropriations.

I think is too early to make such forecasts.. It will depend of the next year budget. In the last few years the national budget was issued in January/February. Probably Bechtel counts of some Ministry promisis

I believe 3c section alone will be useless.. However finishing 3c could be a good motivation to start 3b and to link with CT- Gilau. I'm afraid 3b suplacu- mihaiesti will be one of the most difficult and expensive part of TM.

I didnt forget 3a but this one has to be easier, only 24 km to Mihaiesti.

For now these are sweet words from Bechtel and the Government. There is also the promise of completing the 60 km of A3 between Bucharest and Ploiesti next year. There are big plans for next year, but let's stay realistic and not hope too much. If they will be able to deliver 120 km of A3 next year it will be a miracle indeed. And it's not that it's not technically feasible, it's just they there is need for money to be allocated from the budget for that.

That's near Turda or Campia Turzii, east of Cluj. The one which Ionut is talking about is even much bigger.

Maybe Romania and Bulgaria need to organize Euro 2016 or 2020 to speed up highway construction

Bulgaria, Romania Urged to Host Euro Football Championship
Sports | October 8, 2010, Friday

Foreign Investors urge Romania to host the European Football Championship in 2020 in order to boost the country's economy.

The council of foreign investors in Romania has suggested the country to host the European Football Championship in 2020, together with Bulgaria or Hungary, Romanian media reported.

This is one of the 12 measures, proposed by the council, for reviving the Romanian economy.

"The proposal regarding football was the most attractive one," the Romanian Jurnalul National reported.

If Romania manages to become the host of the European Football Championship, this would bring investments of about EUR 10 B in the country's infrastructure by 2020.

According to the forecasts, in the year of potential finals in the championship, the tourists would increase by 1,5 million in the next year.

Claudio Zito, Country Manager and President of the Enel company in Romania, has explained that if Romania hosts the football championship together with Bulgaria or Hungary, the GDP would increase by 1% for every EUR 1 B, invested in infrastructure.

There is a flip side to that coin though. What if the projects aren't finished on time, and your country get a bad image? I'm afraid this is exactly what will happen with Ukraine in 2012. The standards are set high these days for such events, but not every country could organize their infrastructure in such short notice.

That is true, but as far as the stadiums are concerned, Bucharest and Cluj are finishing their new modern stadiums early next year. And by 2020 when the EURO are proposed for Romania (& BG or HU), A1, A2 and A3 will be ready. Also, Bucharest will have a new terminal airport and Cluj is tendering now an expansion of the airport and runway. So, all in all, I think there is enough time for the necessary infrastructure to be built, and such a challenging goal (organising the EURO) could stimulate the pace of infrastructure building.

Silviu that is not a viaduct and is not part of the motorway. It is the structure of a Kaufland logistic center.
