I thought this was a weird building at first but it turned out beautifully. Looks really elegant and much much better than the rendered pictures.

place is great, but the design doesn't match the local.

It's right beside Tiananmen Square for Pete's sake.

it does not match the surroundings, especially the forbidden city. It shoud be located somewhere else in Beijing.

Thanks for the photographs, its really amazing. I heard it was designed by Paul Andreu and cost 2.688 billion yuan to build. The theater seats 6,500 people and is 200,000 m in size.

It's situated perfectly. A showcase building like this needs to positioned in an open space and the contrast between new and old is to be commended.

I think it is very beautiful, very serene, has a kind of Chinese Taoist feeling to it.
However, I do hope the acoustics are good. Fan shaped interior usually have poor acoustics. Shoe boxed one, the one to the left, usually have good acoustics.

Nice contrast to the Great Hall of the People nearby. An egg shape like what's on the third photo of the first post looks like the head of (a Chinese version of) Eric Cartman.
