Thanks everyone for the many updates the last days/weeks. It's so cool to see the new U-Bahn stations Hauptbahnhof and Brandenburger Tor.

And I'm really glad that construction on the Hachesches Quartier has progressed so much since he last time I was in Berlin (December 2008). I'm living in London at the moment, but my heart is still in Berlin.

Actually there is A LOT being built in Berlin right now, more than in other European capitals, since they are still filling the gaps the war has left.
And there are of course the new government buildings and infrastructur in general.
But Germans are here on SSC just in small numbers and most of them seem to be just for fun here. *thinking of the German Skybar "Wunderbar"*

Thanks so much @ the guys keeping this thread alive!

As I said, I was thinking of the über awesome German Wunderbar and then comparing how many of the clowns there are actually participating in the rest of Skyscrapercity in a productive way.

Thanks for your welcome to help updating this thread. I wonder if I'm allowed to take pics out of the German architecture forums without asking permission first. Asking everyone and waiting for an answer would be so bothersome...

@ Darryl you might use:
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/
to read the updates on those German architecture forums:
http://www.deutsches-architektur-for...play.php?f=165
http://www.architekturforum.net/view...195acd8248bffe
And the posted pics speak for themselves.

Indeed, and it's quite amazing to see how many things are being built right now. Gaps are filled at a very quick pace. You don't go somewhere for 6 months and when you pass by you find it transformed. I just hope they would renovate the old communist buildings in Alex...

Almost completed Upper East Side complex in Berlin-Mitte,
(Unter den Linden, the main street in the historical center)

It replaces ugly commie buildings

Thanks erbse! I had been wondering about that project.

My brother is moving from New York City to Berlin today!!
I'm so excited for him. I can now live vicariously through him (...and visit of course!).

Nice new limestone bridge for Berlin-Mitte, just next to the future rebuilt Berlin Castle (Stadtschloss).
They demolished an ugly post-war bridge for this.

The new Rathausbrücke ("city hall bridge", pre-war name "Kurfürstenbrücke"):

More info about the bridge and its historical predecessor (which could have been reconstructed, a corporation fighted for this) - in German:

This is a very big undertaking to do a website like that. I'm just saying that if you want to make something like this, work your way up. Start with simple websites and add functionality afterwards. This is not a 5 hour website.

Better than something too fancy for this place, I think. It got some classic architecture appeal to it as well.

You beat me to it. Usually I have to revive this thread every 3 months or so with a similar question.

Can anyone tell us English speakers more about the plans for Tauentzien Str. between the Memorial Church and Wittenbergplatz? I read an article in German about it, but my German sucks and I only get the overall points of what I read and miss a lot of details. The article said something about they will renovate with landscaping and stuff to make it more accessible for strolling (?).

Will that cool sculpture still stay there?

When will the work begin?

What are more details you may have regarding this project?

Thanks!
