It'll probably be turned into an urban quarter with residential units, offices, shops, restaurants and so on.

After all, Berlin is in heavy need of new apartments. Bigass investments wherever you look.

The idea of a lake here is out of date?

There's no final plans for Tempelhof so far.

I guess it'll have some park-like elements.

The hotel market in Berlin is still on the rise, more than 25 million tourists in 2012 alone. It's among the fastest growing places in the world.

AvD-Palais

Alternative design for AvD-Palais @ Leipziger Platz 16 by the classical-inspired office Patzschke - perhaps the winning one?

I really enjoy this neo-classical style that has spurred in Berlin over the last few years

The Square³

Indeed, I love it as well. There's many more examples, perhaps someone's willing to make a thread about it.

But Berlin gets some great modern stuff as well.

The Square³ (Hohenschönhausen, east part) - a mixed complex (hotel, sports, medical facilities, living) with a 118m highrise.

There is so much building going on in Berlin and so much more to come! This thread definitely needs a person who is dedicated to it!

Yeah, please, pleeeeease update this thread more regularly!! Even though there is so much going on in Berlin, the world (according to SSC) must think, it's already dead.

Won't these projects destroy Berlin? Isn't there a fear that it would become a new London, where rich people, that don't have anything to do with Berlin, would buy flats and Berliners would move to periphery, and than you get super rich, half empty and soulless city center?

^ There's a lot of gentrification happening throughout central quarters of Berlin indeed.

But the city's taking measures to avoid turning it into a soulless nirvana by prohibiting luxury renovations in single quarters and keeping a lot of property for the city/state. Though I'm not sure it'll help that much...
