Love the streamline design. It will be a nice contrast to the other boxier buildings.

Enough with the stupid malls already! Berlin, please! Poor brewery, reduced to facades. Facadism at its best.

Stop killing streetlife.

Berlin's most beautiful baroque church tower will soon stand again:

http://www.parochialkirchturm.de/

Like the original tower the reconstruction will feature a Glockenspiel, that again will become one of Berlin's great attractions.

Construction starts in August this year!

Finally Berlin's Bauakademie will be reconstructed as well!

The Foreign Ministry and the Berliner Schloss Foundation want to rebuild the Bauakademie, the Berliner Tagesspiegel announced:
http://www.tagesspiegel.de/berlin/re...n/9569664.html

For now only a mockup of the Bauakademie is occupying it's place.

When the contruction will start is yet unknown, but the Bauakademie should be finished, when the City Palace across the Spree river is also finished in 2019.

The Bauakademie might be a highlight at Schinkelplatz, the other buildings framing the square will be, to phrase it nicely...forgettable.

Is there a similar attitude regarding the buildings in Leipziger Platz? The hexagon looks like a sheer wall of nearly identical facades with no relief or unique, striking designs for this showcase location.

There's a constant battle over architectural issues in Berlin, and it's just blasting off...

Berliner can now have a say at this recently initiated urban planning platform:

People should get over, it's not 1905 anymore, the Kaiser isn't in charge and developers must have some freedom to pick their own styles of the places would stay empty/unused/abandoned/vacant.

Of course, money does the talking. But isn't that the same way when the Kaiser did the majority of financing?

I think the point is that it's not too difficult to assess a notable and valued piece of architecture, even I one disagrees with the particular style. The problem is when buildings are planned/completed with little or no long lasting value or architectural prominence.
