I don't see shift from Bonn to Berlin as controversial step.
Capital city Bonn was an artificial creature and current situation is the only logical one - Berlin as true Germany capital.

P.S. For some time I'm developing project "Berlin Projects & Contructions Map".
It can be found here:
https://mapsengine.google.com/map/ed...U.kD2YSrAXUIFQ

Map will be updated on a daily basis in order to create fresh and complete list of investments in Berlin. If you guys think it'd be good addition for that thread, please add link to map in first main post. Link can be also found in my signature.

Marx-Engels-Forum by Andreas Esser

The city goverment decided to develope the areal between TV Tower and Humboldtforum after 2030. First they want a public discussion about the future and on the other side they want to develope first the Molkenmarkt behind the cityhall.

The User libero ( Andreas Eßer, Organisation: www.2bd1.org) created a draft for the area I want to share here. I got his permission but:

view from Museum Iland

New Market with Luther

World time clock moved...

Marx and Engels moved in front of the GDR TV Tower

He is looking for support for his work (architects, etc.), if you are interested.

More about the Marx-Engels Forum here.

This is great news! But after 2030? That is in such a long time...

Now look at that, that is beautiful!! The historical patterns are mostly reconstructed, urban grid is being rebuilt, the Marienkirche is again surrounded by buildings, also GDR history with the fernsehnturm and the world clock is preserved and new streets have scenic outlooks.

But what I like most about this plan is that it is the fist I have seen which also demolishes the flats on the Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse so that the historical streets (northern Klosterstrasse, Neue Friedreichstr.) can be reconstructed.

Do you think that it is a realistic prospect to demolish these flats?

I don't know, I don't know who owns them and what the quality of the buildings are maybe others on the forum can shed some light on that. In the Netherlands most flats like these are owned by public corporations or local authorities, which makes urban renewal easier. Maybe it is the same in Germany.

Hmm...Why would you move the fugly Weltzeituhr (World Time Clock) there? Also, why are Marx and Engels standing in front of the TV Tower? The area around the TV Tower seems to be a little claustrophobic too. I think, a tall and imposing structure needs space to breath a little...

First of all: well done, Ludi. Thank you. In the original post at Deutsches Architektur Forum we discussed the point of demolishing the Flats Karl-Liebknecht-Straße and change the street course to the original path of the Kaiserstreet.

In fact I think this is not possible or realistic for now, but the plan is in different steps (first step rose, second red) so that this decision is not necessary for today or for the core plan, but an option for the future. In my point of view the flats between RosenStreet and Rosa-Luxemburg-Street has to be demolished sometime to connect the old Mitte with Hackescher Markt by the historical Klosterstreet and Neue Friedrichstreet...

PS: This special one is owned by the City (WBM - Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Mitte, which is owned by the city of Berlin)

I think its a good idea to move the GDR parts together, TV Tower and Marx and Engels together.

The world time clock he wants to move for the new / old Berolina I think and the clock would work there very good too I think.

p.s.:

I created an own thread for the Marx-Engels Forum, Marien Quarter and the Molkenmarket behind the cityhall here.

I am wondering, why we havent got one!

Own thread:

"Marx-Engels-Forum, Marien Quarter and Molkenmarket (historical center) - redevelopment"

That project is absolutely hideous, they should build a wide open plaza, not to cramp buildings around the Fernsethrum. Berlin has plenty of space and no need, whatsoever, to remove open areas in or around Mitte for low-rise buildings.

It was also said that decision is made due to "green fields" 5m/10m € subvention from German government which would be lost in case of Forum development?

Nice twisting tower. Also, I am absolutely in love with the New Berlin Style. It does urban infill perfectly and has a historicist design without trying too hard. If only certain American cities could design like this to improve upon the similarly sized shitboxes that are covered in plain stucco, or worse, plastic siding.
