Yes, they want to make Berlin to one of their most important centers in Germany (after Frankfurt of course). And they said something, along the lines, that it's going to be the fourth most important center of Deutsche Bank in the world.

Which is quite a statement, given that Berlin doesn't have much of a standing in financial spheres. Perhaps the city takes on a more active role in finance business in the future. Other institutes will likely follow Deutsche Bank to Berlin.

This perception is inaccurate because it mixes up finance and accounting services. The latter is more important in Berlin.

That is very good news indeed. Berlin needs to take on a more global standing when it comes to business.

@miau: What exactly is inaccurate about it? Berlin clearly isn't a financial center yet, and accounting is a part of the financial sector.

I´ve read in news, which was related to the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) renting at Potsdamer Platz Kollhofftower, that the amount of financial service customers of Berlin office market was at 4% (11.400 m²) in first half year 2014.
The year before it had been at 3% (7000 m²). So you could say that the importance of financial services in Berlin is rising, but yet is at a very small level.
So I guess we aren´t going to see the financial giants pushing Berlin like a rocket in next time, but in fact it will become a bigger part of Berlin in future due to the city is beeing the political Powerhouse of Germany.

Btw. the Deutsche Bank is colaborating with ICBC in this case.

Of course Berlin can't really match Frankfurt or Munich at this stage but it surely deserves a bigger presence in the corporate world. The city needs it to keep growing.

I've read it has had the highest growth in employment in Germany in recent months.

I meant that there is a difference between accounting and financial services (othr than accounting). The first is your classical book-keeping and many companies today out-source it.

honestly if you look at the city, most of the damages have been created in west Berlin.
the most well preserved part of Berlin is in the east, thanks to socialism I would say in this case

Communism is poor, they couldn´t afford to renew everything. Thus many pre-war structures were left in untouched (litterary), but in use, renovated first now after 50 years of ignorance.

Where the communist actually went through with "renewal" projects, their architectural stance was like their political: "Revolution", "root out the past". "Make new street layouts, so that noone can come on the idea to restore the horrible past again". "Our ideas are better than any conservative, collectively experience", "the whole history of civilization´s development was an ignorable act of folly", etc. Delutions of malplaced grandeur. No one wants to live in a commieblock, the market for traditional urban housing is pressed to the limit.

Clearly, I have learned that also western german cities made many gross mistakes when it came to city planning, rooting out quarters of historic old-towns which could´ve been restored, etc. Post-war structures are of low quality also in the west, because the post-war years were poor on both sides (but in the west, it improved more quickly).

I still have the impression, however, that it was worse in the east. Only economic weakness hindered more destruction of pre-war structures. This you can see when travelling in east-german small towns. Here, sometimes nothing was done for 50 years. Now, with increasing renovation, you can get a "pure sight" back to the 20s and 30s, no longer possible in most western german small-towns.

Very very cool. I hope it will be built exactly this way.

But I wouldn't call it next to Berlin's Pentagon. Let's call it next to Berlin's NSA or GCHQ. Or CIA.

The Bundesnachrichtendienst, BND, is the German secret service.
