Looks very tasteful. Very light and airy. Those escalators are laid out like in a shopping center. Will all the underground stations have daylight?

Looks like most of the stations have the same basic layout, but different wall colours and decoration.

In the render, I notice that Orientkaj will have platform doors unlike the other existing elevated stations.

Yes all existing station and new ones has been build with a glass roof so there will be constant daylight onto the platforms.

All existing underground stations look alike and all the city circle line stations also comes in one single design but they decided to mix up the colours so the stations would look more apart.

The only different stations are Marmorkirken where one of the train tunnels are located on top of the other.

I'm not sure about this but it looks like that the Kongens Nytorv station is located closer to the surface than the other stations.

Yes that is correct.

But there is also plans to add platform screen doors on the existing stations in order to reduce the headways in the core tunnel that are very crowded in the rush hour.
I think that the plan is to do that in 2014.

Its also possible to add an extra wagon on the trains from 3 to 4, but that is more expensive.

From the pictures you posted it looks like the same would apply to Gammel Strand? It would make sense. The area where that station is located (Hoejbro Plads) is a landfill. Former seabed. One had perhaps better not dig too deep there.

Yes its located just under the canal bottom, also it is a narrow space so some of the station box is located under the canal so the entrances are located to one side of the platform instead of on top of the platform.

Vibenhus Rundel is also located close to the surface.


And all the red stations is where you can change to S-trains( that has red trains) and the more grey'ish stations is where you can change to M1 and M2 because of the grey stations on the old lines. very smart.

I must say that I am amazed at the degree of public subsidisation that my fellow Danes are willing to pour into this new metro system. - Don't get me wrong: I like trains in general and I think the evolving metro solution in Copenhagen is elegant. However, according to the figures I have seen no single part of what has been built so far, the new ring and the future extensions to the north and south harbour is anywhere near being self-financed.

My surprise may have something to do with my living in Paris where (1) the metro system is already highly developed, and (2) people are much more tolerant of crammed trains and traffic jams than in Scandinavia. Close to where I live, metro 4 was prolonged to suburban Montrouge after decades of local congestion. Almost from day one the number of daily passengers using the new station reached 36,000. On the future ring in Copenhagen I believe only the central station and Kgs Nytorv can match this.

It looks to me like Copenhagen has chosen to build first and wait for the passenger mass to grow later? Fair enough. It does, however, contrast with most other cities where one builds new infrastructure only once the capacity in the existent system becomes grossly inadequate.

The new city bikes have now officially been "introduced"- the press event: was held yesterday at Flintholm.

Today the bikes were not there anymore, unfortunetely. As I understand, they will first be useble sometime in October and the whole system will be complete next spring.

The only thing still very shady is the pricing of these bikes. Politiken writes that will cost 20 DKK per hour, which is rather hafty imho. With a subscription they say it will be 50 DKK per month + 4 DKK per hour- that is quite reasonable, but no good for visitors and tourists, hopefully they come up with some solution there.

Some good news from Copenhagen.

Copenhagen municipality will pay 2 billion DKK out of around 7-8 billion DKK and 9-10 billion DKK if the 30% budget reserve is included.
