If we count broken rails, electrical wires falling down, people hit by the train then its only 92,6%

The Metro also had a record number of passengers, the number looks like this

60.891.193
+6,5%
New on time record +99,2%

It makes me curious. Greater Copenhagen seems to be similar in size to Greater Stockholm yet the Copenhagen Metro and S-Tog have lower combined ridership than just the Stockholm metro, not mention the Stockholm suburban lines. Are there many other urban or suburban rail lines in the Copenhagen area that are handling some of the traffic?

The cities have somewhat different lay-outs. Especially the suburbs. Stockholm is more about the nodes around rail stations (sadly, very few of those are urban, most are like 1940-70s anti-urban projects) and also more spread out with way worse bike infra, so the modal share of rail transit in Stockholm is higher.

Some other factors are these.

Copenhagens infrastructure is very much depending on busses, line 5A alone transports around 25 million passengers annually.

Around 50% of the people in central Copenhagen commutes by bike, thats alot.

Some train passengers from the north, east and west also comes into the city by either Øresundstog (north and east) and Regionaltog and Intercity trains from the west so they don´t show in these statistics.

And we are also very car centric.

Copenhagen(including the suburbs) looks more urban to me than Stockholm.

That's also why many people commute by bike.

It's a healthy and eco friendly choice but I think its because our metro is not as big as in other cities so people will need other transportation forms like biking.

What i ment by car centric was about the suburbs and people travelling to central Copenhagen for work, because the number of people in Copenhagen that owns a car is way lower than in the rest of Denmark.

Look at the motorways, there are 6 motorways leading into the city and the biggest ones carries over 100.000 Carsten a day.

For the greater Copenhagen area the number of daily trips done by one person looks like this.

Roughly numbers as I'm writing from my mobile phone, but its a report from Trængsels kommissionen that was made by the government to deal with Copenhagen's transport issue.

Cars 3.500.000
Public transportation 950.000
Biking 1.200.000
Walking 1.050.000

Very interesting! Seems like a number of different factors at play.

But it counts trips to and from work, to shopping, bringing kids to school or football (or soccer if you prefer that) so it all adds up.

Here is a more geographical correct map with both the City Circle Line, North Harbour Line and South Harbour Line + some of the old line

The text box says from top to bottom

Tunnels to Nordhavn/North Harbour done, the tunnels with a total of 3,4 kilometers (1,8 and 1,6 each) and was done 1 month ahead of schedule.
Further extensions are planned but not decided yet.

The TBM Tria is drilling the last bit to the central station at the moment.

In 2015 the government decided to extend M4 with the Sydhavnslinien/South Harbour Line, a 4,5 kilometer southern extension that ends with a new underground station at Ny Ellebjerg where it meets with long distance, commuter and S-trains and busses.

This autumn Metroselskabet will choose the contractor for the 10 billion kroner (inclusive the 30% budget reserve) extension that after the plan will open in 2023.

bonus info, the drilling will take place between 2019 and 2021.

First the 2 tunnels from just north of Frederiksholmsløbet to Ny Ellebjerg and then the 2 tunnels from Frederiksholmsløbet to a division chamber just north of Fisketorvet.

Thanks Bongo. Above all I love the fact that the metro in your city is 24/7 like NYC !!

Many thanks, bongo-anders. I had been wondering how they were going to organise the line-sharing between the central station, on the one hand, and the maintenance shop and the new southern line on the other. Now I know.

Changing the subject, does anyone know why the northern line will be covering the considerable distance from Nordhavn to Oesterport without one single intermediate stop? It looks to me like they are missing an opportunity to connect better with the Oesterbro residential neighbourhood. OK, the metro company can say that there's not enough passengers going to and from this area, but that also applies to some of the stations (for example in Frederiksberg) on the circle line.

The argument (that I think is wrong) was that a stop at Østerbro will make the trip so long that fewer passengers will use it from Nordhavn and Orientkaj.

It had probably only added 1,5 minute to the travel time.

But I call bull..t and I think it was just a bad excuse for sawing the costs of building another station.

Ideally a station at Krauseparken where they currently are building a emergency shaft had been a good choice for a station.

When waiting for the next TBM´s to start drilling the Sydhavn Branch in early 2019 they have already started the preliminary work on some of the stations.
