Its not quite a hole as Liechtenstein has no airport and is landlocked between Austria and Switzerland, both Schengen countries. So unless you are a citizen of Liechtenstein or a guest coming from a Schengen country (or at least passing through some before your arrival), its hard to imagine how your journey should go via Liechtenstein.

You're forgetting about crime and illegal immigrants from Liechtenstein.

I bet there are no Lichtensteiners in this forum to comment in return. Too few of them to spread around?

I wonder how Liechtenstein is doing in this financial crisis. I mean, AFAIK they totally depend on their banking system, like Iceland

There has been a few Icelanders, but they are a pretty rare sight in the nordic forums.

They don't even if banking is an important branch. Liechtenstein has a mentionworthy industry branch which is actually the most important sector of its economy. The leading industrial company HILTI has 19 000 employees. Even though many of them may not work at the headquarters in Schaans/Liechtenstein directly.

Yup then Bulgaria and Romania by next year. As regards to Cyprus, well, it's more complicated.

Also, with Croatia joining the EU, I do wonder if they'll choose to join Schengen or if they will maintain their own visa policy (i.e. like what UK and Ireland are doing).

P.S.
Btw, do we have an embassy for Ireland here in the Philippines?

Its quite annoying that citizens of the Republic of Kosovo still cannot travel through Schengen area without visas, pure unfairness based on political issues. Kosovo I believe has implemented all the standards required to join the the visa free scheme.

Problem is there are countries in Schengen area don't recognize Kosovo as independent country and for every decision about a common policy must required the agreement of all Schengen members (the same for to let Romania and Bulgaria to join in...)
