The building went up FAST (from a hole in the ground to topped off in about a year) and was the World's tallest for over 40 years. And it still fits in with its timeless classic look and feel. A true architectural masterpiece!

Fantastic historical u/c photos. Awesome how it was such a titan at the time (still is!) and dwarfed all surrounding buildings! Magnificent

Everyone loves the Chrysler Bld but this thread is about the ESB...........There can be no denying for now and always the Empire State deserves No 1 status in this city !

I always disliked ESB's facade. It has some great details and I love its top and interiors, but the Chrysler Building clearly is the superior masterpiece in everything.

Me too. I've never had a liking of ESB's facade. I think much of ESB's prestige comes from its silhouette, which we can pretty much say, is the most recognizable in the world
