hopefully nothing.

From what I know the compatition for the design of the statue is over however it is not decided yet if any of the works is chosen. And the whole think is wrapped in politics as usuall, municipality of center pushing the project incognito even though the location as well as the decesion for upbringing such monuments is in the hands of the municipality of Skopje.

hehe, Dewrob, its seems like you are not a big fan of the project , I am sure you have valid reasons and prob think money can be spent elsewhere. I for one hope it goes through, and hopefully it would be a good design. I think Skopje lacks a fountain like statue as far as I know, I think it would be a nice cultural addition to Skopje.

there was a perfect concept for the central square location fountain with an obelisk in the middle and lots of folk elements embedded as a texture of the bottom of the fountain (I'll try to look it up for U if U haven't seen it). The concept dates from a few decades ago and it was refreshed somewhere around 2000. Even parts for it were built up already by some the artists in charge of the project. However the project was postponed by the previous mayor Penov due to funding and dismissed by the lunatic Kostovski shortly after he gained power.

I think that construction of an attractive fountain, original artwork, embeding the Macedonian folklore in a subtle and modern way would be a much nicer ornament for Skopje than some horsmen to begin with. Horsmen were constructed in another time period around the world, they represent another time U see very few of them popping up today around the world. On the contrary the trend is construction of modern, often abstract monuments.

Also... Does it have to be a horsmen? Ljubljana has a writer on its main square and there is nothing wrong with it.

Last but not least there are many other people in our history which are 1000 more times more important for us as a modern nation that Alexander the great who has a regional importance but has nothing to do with modern Macedonism. Let's take the Bulgarians for example. Are they celebrating Khan Kubrat or Vasil Levski!? It's rather obvious who is the more important one for them as a modern nation.

It's one thing giving tribute to Alexander in a normal manner but placing a big ass statue of him on the central square Skopje reeks of something else, something wrong.

Not to mention the political consequances which will be inevitable from such irresponsible move.

Anyways I just read in Dnevnik that the proposal for the statue will be adopted in October.

there U go I only got this lousy animation which was created for Penov's 2004 election campaign and it doesn't put much emphasis on the details unfortunately. Still U get the general idea

World renown brands such as Armani and Esprit are going to have shops in the new TIPO shopping mall in the center of Skopje. TIPO will open on the 15th of October. They are still not sure about the name.

This is the only one that was available. It should be noted that they are actually reconstructing an old mall and not building a new one from scratch.

it's one of those malls from communist times which remained to be run down regardless of its exclusive loction (facing the main square and the Lumiks building on the other side). With this one being renovated and Lumiks being completed the whole area will be unrecognizable.

lol it's taking it's time:p

Well some news about that hotel complex behind the the Ramstor shopping centre.

Quote:

More here
Just says that it is expected in 6 months for the hotel and shopping centre construction to start. The British company 'Rezidor hotel group' is the investor, worth 30million euro's and both buildings are expected to be built in 2.5 year. On the land behind the old rail way station, the company Equest Balkan Properties will built the shopping centre, which is worth 15million euros. (Rail way station and Ramstor are side by side)

No cover - everything is there to be seen and it's horrible. Not to mention that we're talking about a rigged competition:

The wast majority of architects and ordinary people are disgusted. But it is a good thing that we're finally seeing some resistance. Here's the first step of a (hopefully) broader front against this and other such attempts to terrorize the city.

the project for the new Macedonian philharmony is chosen. It seems we finally have something good after the latest scams with the Mother Theresa memorial, the officers hall reconstruction etc........... At least it seems cool on this very small picture we gotta find a bigger render

Yes!!!

Finally something good... That picture is damn small, but it is obvious that it looks good despite the tiny pic (and that's probably saying a lot)

I also think it fits the surrounding very well.

These are my first impressions. As you said, we should try to get a decent pic soon. But from the look of things, I'm optimistic.
