They have destroyed the only decent building on that side of the road. I thought it would be temporary, ridiculous they cand do that without planning permission.

I've realised why it's taking so long to pave Granary Square. They must be getting the art students to do it, because no-one who has ever even tiled a bathroom would make this kind of horlicks of it.

Oh my. That'll all have to come up and go back down. The client won't accept that.

That is appalling. Have they never laid paving stones before?

How do you guys know that isn't meant to be like that and maybe there is some sort of feature being made of how they join?

I think that's what's going on actually. You can't see clearly in that pic, but two different parts of the square meet here; my guess is that they will cut a direct join through here.

Having said that, the paving of the square is a little bit... higgeldypiggeldy. It's not all on the level. There are some odd strips that are concreted rather than paved. And a mix of paving has been used to define certain areas, and I'm not 100% sure that it will work. We'll see when it opens in June, I guess.

If you like weird Europop then maybe check this out, it's the first major event planned for the square: http://europe.eurostar.com/eurostar-traction/

Do you think they got that artist who made the crack in the Tate Modern to do this?

Well, maybe as Arkady says, they are going for a patchwork quilt of differently tiled sections which they cleverly join together at great expense of time and effort - or maybe they're a bunch of muppets!

Yes the top is finished and will remain open to the elements. The exterior is (pretty much) complete.

If you download the high-definition version of this picture: http://www.kingscrosscentral.com/ima...anary%20Square

...the you can make out how the join will work; I think it accomodates an unraised curb.

any more glazing would turn it into a greenhouse sadly. short of spending hundreds of thousands a year on airconditioning it we're pretty much stuck with the current levels of natural light
