A bunch of pretty nice photos of many Israeli local roads/streets, posted in the Israeli forum:

Are those Highway 2 tunnels in Haifa already completed? I believe some Chinese company was building them.

The boring of the tunnels was completed about a year ago by the Chinese company, apparently a whole year ahead of schedule. The whole project (i.e. the actual roads, ramps, and connections) is not yet finished, though from what I understand the project is on track.

However, I cannot find much information about its progress. Wikipedia states the completion date as December 2010, and some sources indicate that the eastern section may be opened next month, though I don't know if that's going to happen.

The tunnel is expected to be opened by the end of this year, or at the beginning of the next year.

Meanwhile, here are some pictures of construction of an interchange, adjacent to the tunnel (from Tapuz forum).

Not to mention the project as a whole, this interchange is really impressive.
I dont remember if it was already posted here, but eventually the interchange will look like this (sorry if the picture is too large):

I think the Haifa project is just horrible. The whole north of Haifa and the Krayot are already a mess, full of horrible roads and it will only get worse. I'm also disappointed, that the Metronit project is still not operating (will it ever?).

Very nice

Definitely the best road in the country. I also get to use it quite a bit, since I live in Modiin.

The video is a bit crap though. Too many interruptions.

So? This thread is about highways, not railways, even if they run parallel to a highway.

A short section of the Arava road (the southernmost section of Highway 90) that was recently upgraded. This is considered to be one of the most dangerous roads in Israel (not this section though, I hope):

Apparently the Carmel tunnels are going to open in two months. It will cost 11.40 NIS ($3.00, 2.40 euro) to drive through the entire tunnel.
(Source; sorry, Hebrew only)

Here is a little preliminary video:

The Ministry of Transport has reformed the speed limits of Israeli roads, raising motorway speeds to 110 km/h with a 10% enforcement tolerance (meaning one can theoretically drive up to 120 km/h). The new guidelines were formulated during the past two years by a professional team of traffic engineers, road safety and economy specialists.

The recommendations approved by the Minister Katz will only raise the limits to 110 km/h on highways that conform to motorway standards, like Route 1 between Jerusalem - Tel Aviv, Route 431 between Modi'in and Rishon Lezion, and Route 4 between the Rishon Lezion and Ashdod.

Additionally, the speed limit of Highway 2 (Coastal Road), Route 20 (Ayalon) , and Route 5 (the Trans-Samaria) will be raised from 90 to 100 km/h. Route 40 (Beersheva bypass) will also be raised from 90 to 100 km/h, but may be further increased to 110 km/h pending additional studies.

Some urban roads, however, will see a speed reduction: Namir Road in Tel Aviv will be reduced from 80 to 70 km/h, Ben Gurion University avenue in Beer Sheva from 60 to 50 km/h, and Basel Street in Tel Aviv from 50 to 30 km/h.

The changes, for the most part, will not require new legislation.

Hi all,

Google Earth has recently been updated, and shows some rather nice views of the western part of Road 431, where it meets Road 4 - the Ein Hakore Interchange and its surrounding interchanges (with and without labels):
