KONE to deliver elevators and escalators for Tower 185 in Frankfurt
6 May 2009
Hugin Press Release

KONE Corporation, press release, May 6, 2009

KONE won a major order to supply and install all elevators and escalators for the new Tower 185 in Frankfurt, Germany.

KONE will deliver 28 elevators and 2 escalators in total to the 185 meter skyscraper, which will be built in the "Europaviertel" (European Quarter), one of the main developments in the city. The elevators will range from standard elevators with a speed of 1m/s to high performance elevators with a speed of 7 m/s. To ensure smooth traveling and optimized people flow, all elevators will be linked to a destination control system, which instructs users to choose the elevator that takes them to their destination floor with the fewest stops.

The new Tower 185 building will include office and commercial premises. The concept and design of the building have been made by architect Prof. Christoph Mäckler. Vivico, owner and project developer for the building, aims to save at least 25% of the energy consumed by an average skyscraper and intends to have the project licensed with the LEED Gold certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

"We are extremely proud to be associated with this great development," says Noud Veeger, KONE EVP and Area Director for Central and North Europe. "Due to the LEED accreditation objective as well as the architect's aim to use significantly less energy than conventional skyscrapers, this project is a perfect fit for KONE's approach to sustainable building design. We look forward to working with Vivico and Prof. Mäckler on this prestigious project."

About KONE

KONE's objective is to offer the best people flow experience by developing and delivering solutions that enable people to move smoothly, safely, comfortably and without waiting in buildings in an increasingly urbanizing environment. KONE provides its customers with industry-leading elevators, escalators and innovative solutions for modernization and maintenance, and is one of the global leaders in its industry. In 2008, KONE had annual net sales of EUR 4.6 billion and over 34,800 employees. KONE class B shares are listed on the NASDAQ OMX Helsinki Ltd in Finland.

Thank you for the compliment. This is the old rendering of the tower. The new one was increased at the top!

There's been some huge amounts of growth visible on the webcam the past few days, I really hope Ulukai gives us some quality updates very soon! The tower is definitely making some nice progress right now.

it's true though. the good thing about is, every new skyscraper is changing the skyline considerably.

What's "true though"? It's just an opinion, not a fact. I think the majority of Frankfurts skyscrapers/highrises is way above European standards. If you have a look at the EU polls around SSC, most people agree with me.

Now back to the T185! That's a Befehl!

I think you misunderstood him. he didn't say that frankfurt has a few nice towers. he said frankfurt has nice towers, but the city doesn't have many towers. and that's true. there's only a dozen skyscrapers so far ...

Well, if you come from a planet with 16 moons, you might find the Earth system quite disappointing.

and there is always the possibility to stay away from "stupid" discussions ...

... or to contribute something productive to this thread.
