Sneinton Masterplan unveiled tonight. There was an article in the post about it yesterday.

An application has been submitted (not yet validated) for the MediPark outside the QMC. Should be pretty exiting, it will be one of the biggest masterplans submitted for a while. I haven't seen it yet though and have no idea what its going to be like.

An application has been submitted to demolish queens hotel in preperation for the Meadows Gateway development. Show your support for the demolishon plans here.

As you know, the development planned for no1 hockley was withdrawn, however it looks like the developers have changed their mind and resubmitted it (exactly the same - no changes at all). When you get a chance, lot on to plan4nottingham and throw up all the rejections you can.

I believe JEM Leisure (an arcade) are opening up the retail unit at no1 Bridlesmith (old travel agents)
Dan, where did you get the JEM Leisure information from? I'd hate it if this is true, what a shit use for a key retail location. It will attract all the fucking chav scum and filthy bastards who shit them sen whilst playing the gamblers cos they can't be arsed to move away from the machine. Very bad decision if this is true and change of use is approved for this location.

Any idea when this is supposed to be finished. Not because I like the design, I used to cycle down that side road every day to work and it's been blocked for yonks (or you can't cycle down there).

JEM leisure Sign of the times when Bridlesmith Gate is attracting such quality vendors. How long until there's a pound shop?

The JEM leisure application is for an A3 (i.e. food and drink) use. The proposed design shows an external seating area, a long counter inside with more stools, and more seats on a mezzanine upstairs. Looks like a coffee shop, not an arcade.

News of ANOTHER Subway in Nottingham, this time on Carrington Street. It's next to Branches furniture shop and the Citizens Advice Bureau. In the unit that was formerly a cowboy/line dancing clothes shop. Good thinking for this particular Subway though, close to both the Train & bus station and also nearby offices. There's certainly enough foot traffic for it to do business.

The cob shop next to the bridge and the Carrington fish bar are going to fuming though!

it might be that the franchise owner is replacing the one that closed on the city end of derby road. that one was always quite quiet, though i agree, this makes alot more sense.

Sounds quite promising. From the BBC.

Quote:

Plan to build £15m sports college
A £15m educational facility is to be created by South Nottingham College, Nottingham Rugby Club and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.

The new college will be built alongside the rugby and cricket club's current training facilities in West Bridgford.

Malcolm Cowgill, principal of South Nottingham College, said the new site would offer a range of sports courses for students and the public.

The college is being built over the next two years.

'Great potential'

Mr Cowgill said: "Hopefully we're going to bring together the elite athletes with students to inspire them to enter in to education.

"We are hoping to make this the hub of sport education across Nottingham and hopefully across the county. I think the key for us is there's a genuine support for the community by the professional clubs."

Rob Harding from Nottingham Rugby Club, which trains at the site, said it had "great potential".

"We play at Notts County at the moment and we enjoy playing there but there are four rugby pitches here... we can turn this into a training centre of excellence for ourselves and hopefully push onto the Premiership.

"Nottingham gets some bad press so if we can improve that through education through sport, then we're certainly doing something for the community."

This plan does fit well with the percieved direction that Nottingham is taking at the moment, looking at healthy living as a way to combat the problems of the city. I think its a brilliant idea as well...as people who are healthy tend to be happier, and that in itself can help the ambition and feeling of a city.

The Post have some details today of the programme that the council are looking to adopt:

Quote:
Nottingham wants to attract top sporting events to inspire people across the city to get active.

Getting people involved in sport would reduce obesity, anti-social behaviour, drugs and crime.

The idea is being backed by the Government - sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe said: "This is something we would be willing to invest cash in."

A group, called Sport4Nottingham, has been set up by councils, the health service, Crime and Drugs Partnership and sports organisations.

It is drawing up a list of top sporting events it wants to bring to the city and then organise community activities, involving professional sportsmen and women, to run alongside them.

Nottingham is expected to target female sports, including tennis and netball, to add to the Women's FA Cup Final and international women's hockey festival already planned for the city in 2010.

It is also expected to be a strong contender for major archery and canoeing events as well as international cricket beyond 2011, when the current deal on Test Matches and One Day Internationals expires.

Mr Sutcliffe said: "Nottingham is now far more advanced than anywhere else in the country in terms of setting up this kind of scheme."

Graham Allen, chairman of regeneration organisation One Nottingham, which has established Sport4Nottingham, said: "If we can increase participation in sport by such a degree, it would improve health, help fight crime and drugs and improve the lives of people in the city."
Also...did anyone else receive that Nottingham Regeneration Magazine from Vision Nottingham? Looked pretty good, and was nice to see that there are other people out there as enthusiastic about the city as we are. All the major projects are mentioned in there, but not in any massive detail. The main ones (Broadmarsh and Eastside) are still hyped a lot, but there wasnt a great deal of new information. I hope these get going now, as I cant think of anything else (legally) that can be holding them up.

Fireworks were really excellent again, and there were so many people! Nottingham really came out for the event yesterday! Trent Bridge was packed!

It was great. We've just come back from a seaside holiday, so it was nice to extend the holiday mood for another day with the fireworks!
