I ate there yesterday. the burger was fine with the special sauce. I got the mashed potatos and the smores dessert. very good. great atmosphere and a healthy crowd. I think I preferred the Toojay's though. But, it rounds out that building's retail nicely:
1. Cheyenne Saloon
2. Brick & Fire
3. The Dessert Lady
4. Hamburger Mary's
5. former Club Paris space/ entrance to Presidential Ballroom. When the Hilton gets built and connects to the Pres., I think this side of CSS will round out rather nicely

Panino's Pizza & Grill opened this week near Pine & Orange next to the City Arts Factory (across from Dan's Midnight Pizza)

Beyond Juice opened at the foot of the Suntrust tower near the Park Building

Ethnycity art & clothing gallery opened near Magnolia & Jefferson

-----

I ate at Panino's the other day, and it was very refreshing to see that they have way more than just pizza. It's quick-serve style, but they have salads, wings, calzones, pastas, veal, seafood, subs, paninis, and even dessert. And it's also really nice to be able to get a quick slice of pizza in a place that is brand new and VERY clean. Not that downtown needed more pizza, but it worked for me.

Haven't been to Beyond Juice yet. The menu looks ok, but it's your typical downtown soup/salad/sandwich joint. What they specialize in are their "meals in a cup," which is cool if your into that sort of thing.

Ethnycity looks cool, but I haven't been in. It's near the Thai Café and that Philly Cheese-steak place. They had a little block party there a couple weeks ago.

also, Tijuana Flats' new location is inside Thornton Park Central.

Gibson Guitar also opened up about a month ago at Central & Court.

almost forgot: Stardust Lounge opened up a couple of weeks back on Central & Lake, I think, in that apt. bldg. on Lake Eola-- took over the old location of that restaurant that was there (?).

Stardust is at Central & Osceola, underneath the Post Parkside highrise tower. it's REALLY cool on the inside.

BTW, NYPD is supposed to have a big screen facing outward that shows the cook cooking the pizzas like they do in some places in NYC-- that's what the owner told me a couple of weeks back.

the rest of the place is going to have nine 42" flatscreens mounted on a central post. buildout is looking sweet. should be open this week.

Fratelli's just opened at the intersection of Livingston & Orange next to the fur shop by Empire Szechuan.

It's interesting because it's Italian food, but everyone that works there really speaks Italian. To each other. It's OK on the inside...quick-serve style, but they actually bring the food out on real, nice plates, and the portions are BIG. I was there at lunch time, but it's probably nicer for dinner.

I went to Ember's opening last night. old Kate O' Briens location.

$3-4M buildout; first class joint; indoor/ outdoor; 180 degree turnaround from what was there before.

sorry, no pix;

I'd say as far as ambiance, I'd put Ember up there with Ceviche, Kress, and Corona to name a few.

Yeah some of there people dropped off "free drink" cards at work the other day so I walked down there to check it out. It looks really nice!

Publix is finally open on Central & Osceola. It opened about a week ago and it's actually about twice the size of the colonialtown Publix. It';s really really nice and parking's free in the Paramount garage. Most shoppers walk or park in the garage so I've never had any problems finding a spot on Central. Gotta have quarters though.

whoops. the most obvious new retail opening in downtown and I forgot to post on it.

I've been to the new Publix a half dozen times already. it's awesome; underground parking w/ elevator service; 30k sq ft.; extra tall shelves; it's great to see people starting to use it more and more. I think the grand opening had a line of 100+ waiting to go in last Saturday around 8 am-ish.

the next big centrally located retail is that SODO Target with rooftop parking opening officially on October 12 right past ORHS. That place is stunning.

SODO looks really cool, but so out of place all the way down there on Orange. It will be nice to have a Target (and yeah I'm a fatty on the inside--a Taco Bell) so close.

The 24/Hour Fitness I'm not so psyched about though. They announced that membership rates will be $50 a month, which is about $26 above the 24HF national average (making it the most expensive in Orlando behind RDV and YMCA). I don't know why they're charging so much more here in Orlando...plus don't let the name fool you, in most locations they are not 24 Hours every day.

CSS was supposed to have some sort of fitness center as well; not sure of the label.

It's funny about the Panino's right next to Ichiban. Gino's just opened up across from Gibson Guitar on Central recently for their umteenth-like location. That's 3 locations within 2 1/2 block of each other-- the other two being across PTP on Orange and next to Amura's in the newer part of CSS at the Suntrust complex. Coupled with NYPD Pizza inside PTP, and Midnite Pizza at Central & Orange, that's like 5 pizza joints within that same area.
