great work, MNeimann. I heard May 28 for the Plaza Cinema.

I've been to the post-Fifi's. it was good food. I thought Fifi's was cool being pink and all; it was interesting- it was pink, right?

Yeah it was pink. And they had these odd sexual images of cupcakes with legs on the walls, and they had a girl there that made great cupcakes. Then their cupcake girl quit. That's when i stopped going. Then the café didn't make sense anymore. Then they closed down and got revamped.

Also Le Croissante Shoppe at the base of the Regions Bank building renamed itself Café 111. They're more of a deli/bistro now than just pastries. I couldn't get any good shots though...

The downtown movie theater signs are up! It looks fabulous, and urbane. What a great addition to downtown Orlando.

So as I'm writing this I'm here at Volcano's (the coffeeshop here at the Plaza) and I didn't even realize it but I'm sitting right next to where the executives of the new theater are having a meeting. One of them just said they're gonna have a giveaway (like on the radio and stuff) of a limited number of VIP cards that get you a year's admission to the theater. I'm waiting to hear how they're gonna work out parking (because no one's gonna pay to park), and I don't think the garage here has an attendant who will collect validated parking tickets.

People are coming down in droves to fill out applications for jobs, btw. I wish it was more downtown people that were filling out apps, but I don't recognize anyone I've seen.

they are going to construct some sort of metal sculpture tree-like apparatus to go on those metal frame rods to the left and right of the sign.

Also 2 places are under construction at the plaza in addition to the theater. Mochi's ice cream/gelato shoppe is opening next to Bento, and the Orlando Underground Bar is opening up inbetween NYPD and Urban Flatts.

Anything to cover up the overbearing pre-cast on this building is a plus in my book!

The Underground/NYPD Pizza space: very nice; they knocked down a wall at NYPD and the place is way larger now; big improvement. Underground has a great layout too.

The Orlando Underground opened at The Plaza around happy hour today. They had signs up declaring it yet another "ultralounge." This would be the 20 or 30th ultralounge to open up in this city in the past 2 years. Which in my opinion makes none of them ultralounges.

I don't have my nightlife-dictionary handy, but I thought "ultralounges" were supposed to be like...exclusive clubs with VIP areas and all that. But, if all the bars downtown are calling themselves ultralounges that makes none of them actually exclusive. Can a straight bar not just call itself a bar anymore these days?

Plaza Cinema Cafe has been operational now for over a week. 12 screens. 2 bars at the tips of the North & South towers on the theatre level; full kitchen.

Fun place. great reclining leather chairs with wide armrests. at night, people go up and down the escalators to the theatre level from the ground level restaurant area; there's good energy there now. there was good energy before, but now it just seems complete.

To bring up an older post...

Yeah, the Central corridor has undergone massive change... But when you have such a beautiful urban park in the neighborhood, and you're within walking distance of the core, what urban minded resident wouldn't want to live there?
