NOTTINGHAM | Lace Market Square
Lace Market Square
Status: Near Completion Regen Zone: Lace Market Developer: Bildurn Properties Architects: Wolfgang and Heron Cost:: £10m Use:: Residential (46 apartments), Offices & Retail (55,000sq ft). Links: SSC Thread New Nottingham Page Official Website Bildurn Properties Notes: The £10m Lace Market Square development is at the centre of the Conservation Area and is bounded by Warser Gate, St Mary's Gate and St Mary's Place and adjacent to the new No.1 Fletcher Gate development. The principal building at the northern end of the site will offer 640 sq m at ground floor level of retail space. There will also be five upper floors containing 46 luxury apartments of one and two bedrooms and these will be specifically targeted at the owner-occupier market. The second building will comprise a two storey glazed "pavilion" of approximately 432 sq m and which it is expected will be occupied as a high quality restaurant. Providing an active ground floor frontage to the new public square has been imperative to Bildurn and the City Council. Current Status: London based Rocket Restaurant will open up in the ground floor restaurant. Tennants are moving into the apartments. The square was due to open on 5th September however there have been delays with the finishing of the landscaped piazzza ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr

New restaurant Goji are opening up on 21st August in a unit of One Fletcher Gate next to Lace Market Square. It's operated by the same people as Opium round the corner on Warser Gate. I've added it to this thread because I can't find the One Fletcher Gate thread and it's so close that it's practically one and the same.

I haven't even walked through Lace Market Square yet lol. Last time I saw it the new build was only about 3 floors up and the rest was just a building site.

Yea i would imagine its just finishing touches now. It looks as tho there are residents in some of the blocks now, so im guessing they are finished completely. Its nice to have public space in the lace market surrounded by history and yet the square itself being quite contempory. The modern art on the wall is a nice touch. I wonder when the restaurants will be moving in, as theres no sign of activity on that front at all yet.

Not only is the new build good quality but the old buildings round the square look fantastic..... it looks so natural like there always was meant to be a square there. Ive not seen the actually landscaping properly. The lace trees look good but I hope its not over-fussy - it really doesnt need to be with the surroundings.

i only had two objection on this development.... one that it is a lil bland style wise but yes it fits very well....two the windows should be either all arched or a mix of arched and square..... like the other buildings in the lace market.....i fear that the development will age badly.....because it is just dull and up stage by the gucci of the building world which the pod...... the lace mrkt sq is burberry in comparison... down graded by chavs!!!

If the buildings were completely square then I'd agree about them not fitting in. The curves make them more interesting to look at. We'll have to wait and see as to whether or not it ages well. Only time will tell as the cheesy saying goes.

I quite like the mixture of squared and arched, it makes the building seem a little more rustic and eccentric. having them all the same might just serve to make the building more bland than it was before. My only objection is that they have left the side of the building running down that side street a little bland..maybe some different brickwork or another arsty type thing would have given a focal point as u walk down that street.
