And now imagine melted snow and the pedestrian crossing at the end of the exit lane... The problem still exists in some ex-sowjet countries - pedestrian crossings are still installed in dangerous places.

It's not belong to motorway. It's just a road aside. And you see 5kmph speed limit that shows it's all the pedestran area.

You don't get it... Pedestrian crossing is exactly at the end of the exit lane! No difference that it is a normal road not motorway. What speed limit will be in this road before exit lane? Do you really believe that a driver in the end of the exit lane will drive with 5 km/h speed?

Well, as I see in that picture, sharp turn and the rest area infrastructure right aside prevents driver to cross that pedestrian crossing in great speed. But personally, I wouldn't be using that crosing I would rather cut through that parking aisle, as everyone possibly would.

New section has been opened on M7 "Baltia" in Moscow region. The road connects Moscow with Baltic states and North-West of Russia.
The section is 17-50km with capacity 200.000 cars daily

In Kalinigrad region new section has been upgraded to motorway standards, that is А-229, 8-25km towards LT border.

PS. I have been to Kalinigrad this summer, roads inside of the city and the way how traffic is organized is complete nightmare and city itself isn't attractive. In the same time roads at countryside are good and well maintaned.

Is the destination signage is also improved in that M9 section? Something like in ZSD or A180, where is overhead signage.

Do you think it is - a pedestrian crossing in Spain? It's the line for waiting if needed Such lines are used in most countries of Europe

Thanks for pointing that out, because I was trying to figure out what the hell was supposed to be wrong in that photo.

Na, it's only a road with a grade with a roundabout with small visibility used by a lot of trucks on a place where the rain is quite high with one small river at sides, imho far worse than a pedestrian crossing limited at 5 km/h at the end of a deceleration lane.

Ok But bad example is not an example. It's better to look at good examples

It's M9, not M7 . It's a reconstruction of the existing road. Another 32km section will be completed in 2015.

Do people have information about when are the big projects, for example Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod and further, going to start? And are they going to upgrade the horrible M-8 up to Vologda?

The western business newspapers inform us that Russia is either already in recession or very close to it. What is the Russian government's policy re: road construction spending in these days - does the government stop the spending or in the contrary, the government accelerates / increases the spending ?
