The accompanying article claims that this roads will be finished by 2014, but I think that is way too optimistic (no idea why the year 2027 is on the map)

Verso, they assign different priorities to different parts of Kaliningrad district. As far as I understand, 2027 is supposed to be the year they finish the entire project.

These all infrastructure projects on the map should be finished untill 2027 year. It's nice to see that Russia hasn't forgot about building motorways in Kaliningrad.

If they want to attract tourism, they should lift border checks and visa.

Like I said, the article mentioned 2014 for the completion of these rings, although I am sceptical about that.

Lets not forget to link Kaliningrad with Poland and Lithuania with motorways ... by 2027

Which one is P516? I couldn't find it on the map

Do you mean M classified roads like M4 (Moscow - Black Sea) or M1 (Moscow - St. Petersburg)? or are you talking about motoways?

Will there ever really be enough traffic for a full, big motorway ring? I sincerely doubt it. I would be happy if at least the city ring was finished by 2014 considering Russia's financial problems.

Kaliningrad is planning on becoming a hot destination for internal tourism. If these ambitions are to ever be realized then there have to be some serious infrastructure projects in the pipeline. I believe the motorways are mainly to support tourism to the Baltic coast

I would love to visit Kaliningrad once, being in Russia and that kind of stuff

If only they remove visas and border controles (or at least less strict).

Maybe it will be like American Miami or something

P516 is that ex-reichsautobahn which goes to Polish border

It seems like an ill-advised planning for me. If this ringroad is planned just for the sake of tourism, it's going to be utilized for 2, maybe 3 months a year only. And it would need actually HUGE volumes to even be fully utilized in summer. I mean, Polish seaside resorts are literally swarming with tourists each summer, we don't have a single motorway or any close-to-motorway road though and the traffic doesn't really get THAT bad (traffic is distributed as tourists don't start their holidays the same particular day).

Besides, is Kaliningrad really going to attract internal tourists? I mean, wouldn't those Russians who can afford holidays rather fly to Egypt or Turkey instead of taking a 2-day car trip to Kaliningrad and making their way through all the border controls in Latvia and Lietuva?

I think it can easily attract tourists, or even better - rich Russians who would buy property near the Baltic coast. The area is very beautiful and given sufficient infrastructure and services with some reconstruction of the old towns it could attract many people. I imagine most would not drive, but take a plane to Khrabrovo (which is well accessible from the majority of big Russian cities)

Majestic, you will find that most holiday destinations have their infrastructure crammed to the max during peak season, while enjoying a calm period in between

Yeah, I know. I was just talking costwise and economicwise. You know, most resorts attract tourists with weather, prices or touristic facilities rather than roads
And when it comes to building roads it's better to give a relief to daily commuters than sunday tourists.

Ok, enough of this OT. Are there any major road projects undegoing in Russia apart from St. Petersburg ringroad and Moscow roads?

That's interesting. What does each line mean? Also, what's the road standard and the number of lanes?

EDIT: Ekhm, any English version?

The bridge accross the Oka is just 1 by 1, but its a relatively small regional road. The Nizhny bypass is at least 2 by 2. The lines show the stages of construction

Sorry, no English version
