I have no such information. Most of videos and photos are pure fakes. This is not M53. M53 is fully paved, even at some shitholes, in the middle of nowhere.

there is example. in the middle of nowhere. border of krasnoyarsk territiry. 70km of taishet.

as i said - there are several abandoned unpaved roads going alongside.
here is one example of abandoned parts. there is a modern highway going several kilometers to east of it.

It's weird. Look southeast of Tayshet. First you find this and this, and then this. You can see in GE that pavement ends SE of Tayshet. This one is particularly interesting. I don't know whether it's placed correctly or not (same goes for other pics), but I can clearly see asphalt in GE. It's possible that they are/were just repaving it.

And there is another one.
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/24639215

but when you zoom in the map you see it's a decent road

so
1. fake or mistake, taken in another place. looking on trees and road turn at the background - it was definitely taken in another place.
2. taken during maintenance
3. force major, taken after some climatic disasters

Did you travel the whole distance of it? As i know (from some forums and TV), there are approx. 100 km unpaved. And some "paved" parts are very bad and need to be reconstructed too.
In severeal years it will be done, i think.

Why is the M5 Ural Highway part of the Trans-Siberian Highway instead of the M7 Volga Highway, which is 115 km shorter?

I found info about M53:
Quote:
Google Translate:
Quote:
The route is asphalted all, except a small area (kilometers 150) on the border of the Krasnoyarsk Krai and Irkutsk region (Reshoty, Taishet, Yurt). Flow from Novosibirsk to Krasnoyarsk is not bad, but in the Taishet can already podvisnut.

Sakhalin Island

Photos taken from the blog
http://hitch-hiker.livejournal.com/118502.html

This traveller reports good roads connecting cities (by Russian standards) in the southern more populated part of the island. To the north leads a poor dirt road

Road from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Tymkovskoe

Dirt road going to the north of the island

Such people are compensating for other deficiency's

Quite sad, they aren't worth a driver's license.
