Roger that! The same word exists in Polish language. In singular and masculine form is "bydlak".

I got some time to study these changes tonight.

I'd say it's rather drastic. All M-numbers outside central Russia and surrounding regions are abolished. No more M-roads in Siberia or the Caucasus. Only M1 - M10 remain the same, and M11 is added for the future Moscow - Saint Petersburg motorway. M6 is scrapped because it didn't start in Moscow (though it was one of the major routes to/from Moscow)

The remaining M-numbers are renumbered to R or A-status. I don't quite understand why some became an R-road and others became an A-road.

I'm not quite satisfied with this renumbering (though it won't affect me in any way, I care about such things). My main complaint is that the road numbers don't tell you anymore which roads are very important main roads, and which are just regional roads. For instance, the trans Siberia highway currently has a number of R-roads in the 200 and 300-range. I sort of hoped they would introduce a whole new numbering system for main roads, similar to what Ukraine did a few years ago by creating the N-numbers. I think Russia should have either expanded the M-numbering, or created a dual set of super-main roads (M) and national roads (N). A and R roads don't strike me as particularly different, they serve areas and towns of mostly the same size.

I hope to see some pictures with updates signs!

Yes, now it appears that only roads to Moscow are very important. What was wrong with the previous system?

"M" mean "Moscow". So M-roads are roads from/to Moscow. Very simple.

so the roads which run to/from Kazan should be K-roads, right? i would be completely pissed off if that happened where I live.

Nah, it's just a convenience not having to renumber the most important roads in Russia. I mean, many M-roads (apart from the M5x series) were just short stubs that were leftovers from the Soviet system. For instance M32, M36 and M38 were just short routes into Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is also currently renumbering its system, which means that within about 5 - 10 years, the only remaining Soviet routes will be in Moldova, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Probably 1/5. The total length is 142 km, just small part is not yet operational (should be completed in the end if this year).

Ring road is almost completed, but there is another big project ongoing, the only toll road in Saint-Petersburg, Western high-speed diameter. On the map I poster above it goes from south to north, bypassing sea port and high density area.

Where's the traffic? Or better yet, how much is the toll?

Actually, pretty cheap, less than 1euro. This road just not yet completed

When is the new numbering going to be implemented on roadside signs? Has the change already begun, and has it been completed?

I see that the Saint Petersburg ring road will be A-118. I didn't see a number for the Moscow ring road, but I can't understand the Russian text. Is the Moscow ring road given a new number?
