Excuse my ignorance, is that it has so many Russians in the topic and I could never get those doubts...
no doubt you are an american..
Russia is much safer than US. No muchachos, no piccaninnies, no guns. The only problem might be the language and the Cyrillic alphabet.

don't forget awful pavement at places + harsh weather conditions, snowstorms + some small percentage of crazy fast drivers. street life maybe more safe at some places but I really doubt driving is safer in Russia. I'd say it is more dangerous than in most of places in the world due to bad road condition and winter driving conditions, ice etc.

And of course corrupted police officers. And if you happen to be a black or Asian student, then you will have to proceed with caution, as the fate of the white race in Russia will be at stake...

Bribing cops in some regions of Russia nowadays is dangerous for you, never do it, ask for ticket. They usually don't want to deal with foreigners, if you make it clear you don't get anything, they will probably let you go without a ticket.
A number of drunk drivers is less than in other countries imho.
And actually, are you really going to Russia, or just asking out of curiosity?

Nah, I think it's just the recent hype about dashcams (which have been around in Russia for years, accumulating some incredible footage, giving the impression everyone in Russia wants to crash their car).

Germans were preparing the construction in 1943, then it has been built in 1944-45 by Russians, next year it has been destroyed by ice and no any progress since that time
Also, amount of traffic is unclear, their might be some future if ring road around Black See will get built, but because of political issues (Georgia&Abkhazia) it is still not clear. Besides, it should be financed by Ukraine too, that has more important problems ATM.

I wish US drivers would also have it, we could probably see how boeing crashes pentagon then.

Kemerovo oblast motorways

I noticed there are motorways in Kemerovo oblast.

The southernmost is a 116 kilometer 4-lane motorway from Leninsk-Kuznetsky to Novokuznetsk, followed by a long two-lane bypass of Novokuznetsk. I have no idea when it opened, but it was before 2004 (that's as far as Google Earth imagery goes back).

An additional 25 kilometer motorway opened from Kemerovo city south to R384 in 2011.

I assume there are plans to connect these two motorways. Is it under construction?

I also found it weird that Novokuznetsk is not connected to Kemerovo by a regional road (prefix R or P in Cyrillic). There is the unnumbered motorway.

Last I heard it was in planning process. Length of the missing link is 37 km.

Any updates regarding construction progress on the new Moscow-St. Petersburg highway? Are they working on the entire length of the motorway?

Arkansas River

The Arkansas River Bridge along R495 on Sakhalin Island.

The name of this river, Arkanzas, is the exact same way the American state of Arkansas is spelled (Арканзас).
