What? There is no more beautiful awe-inspiring sight in the whole, wide world than a huge, windowless, light blue and red, cinder block box with Wal-Mart pasted on its face, surrounded by a sea of automobiles and a cheerful greeter at the door welcoming the masses to a wonderland of $3 bras and $7 apple pealers...right smack in the heartland of the good, ol' US of A!.

Walden Galleria Mall: Buffalo, NY
After a $60 million expansion and upgrade, it will have 230+ stores. The mall is beginning to get some better shops such as: Coach, Hugo Boss, Guess, bebe, Sephora, Cheese Cake Factory, Apple Store, and others. With a large area, there is more room for growth. My pictures wont work

That's b/c most of the ones in the outer boroughs are built in areas that don't get subway or rail lines.

Most of Duluth's malls are located on a strip along U.S. Highway 53 and Minnesota Hwy. 194 (after 53 becomes Trinity Road and turns south). This strip covers a length of about six miles, though it is very narrow (usually not extending beyond a few frontage roads) and most of the major, high-traffic development is concentrated within a central two-mile length of the highway between Arrowhead Road and where 194 (Central Entrance) enters a residential zone.
This Google Map screenshot shows the entire length of the highway strip, indicated by the purple marking (there is more development on either side, but it's more residential or sparse): ![]() Here's the core, where most of the chain businesses and the primary malls are: ![]() The biggest mall is the Miller Hill Mall, owned by Spencer's. There are over 100 stores, most but not all of them national chains. The current anchors are J.C. Penny's, Sears, and Younkers. The mall is built on one story and can be quite confusing to navigate. All of the other malls on the highway strip are strip malls. These include the Burning Tree Plaza, which is anchored by Best Buy; another major one (can't remember the name), with OfficeMax, Petco, etc. There are also numerous smaller ones. The highway strip also has a ton of freestanding stores; K-Mart, Target, Wal-Mart, Costco, Kohl's, Super One (groceries), Cub Foods, Home Depot, Gander Mountain, Slumberland Furniture, etc. are freestanding, though they might incorporate a few shops inside. Although nobody would call the development itself beautiful, the area has a nice topography, with some stores (e.g. Home Depot) elevated 30 or 40 feet above the highway. |
