I think that wikipedia is right about VNJ because the distance between Varde and Nørre Nebel is around 25 km and the trains take a detour around Oksbøl but nowere around 51 km.

Wasn't there a plan to build a new s-tog railway line through central Copenhagen? I remember seeing a plan for it once, but haven't heard anything about it since. I think the line went between Vesterport station and Norrebro station.

Does anyone have any more information?

Just checked it on Google Earth

Varde - Nørre Nebel is 37,6 km but the line actually continuous to Nymindegab and there is also a branch line at Oksbøl. Both aren't used by passenger trains anymore but in total it could actually be 51 km long.

It looks like the wiki only measures the parts of the lines that are used for active passenger services and Railfan uses the actual length of the lines.

That sounds like some of the plans that existed before the metro was built. The new plan is for a metro ring line through the inner-ring neighbourhoods (Nørrebro included) and the centre http://intl.m.dk/about+the+metro/con...ircleline.aspx. There have also been discussions about how to increase capacity on the s-tog between Østerport and the Central Station, as there are trains there now as often as every one-two minutes with minor problems causing regular delays.

There was a plan to connect København H with Forum, Rigshospitalet, Vibenshus Runddel and further out to the Farum line.

Here is a pdf link in danish.

We can now only hope that they cannot get these spaghetti bullshit trains through the inspection before the deadline in may, so we can get the 5 billion + interest rates back again!
Is there any news on this? May's just around the corner... As far as Ansaldo goes, the list of local and national public transport companies that have had problems with either bad designs, bad build quality, late deliveries or a combination of these is nearly endless. The sooner they don't get picked anymore, the better.

Banedanmark is going to install ERTMS 2 on all lines in denmark (not private lines)

The first socalled early deployment lines are Lille Syd (Roskilde - Køge -Næstved) in 2017 and the line between Langå, Aalborg and Frederikshavn in 2018.

These lines are selected because they can make test runs without making delays on the other lines.

The ATC (automatic train control) on all lines is according to the plan replaced with ERTMS 2 in 2021 with the main lines replaced in 2019/20.

Also the S-train in Copenhagen is going to have a new signaling system.
The system will be prepared to handle driverless trains, but a driverless S-train is not going to happen for a while.

The early deployment line on the network is the Hillerød line from Jægersborg and out to Hillerød, this will happen in 2014.

The others are....
Enghave to Frederikssund and Høje Taastrup in 2016
Vesterport to Køge and Enghave in 2018
Vesterport to Jægersborg, Klampenborg and Farum and the Circle line in 2020.

Damn, I wish the deal would be off and that DSB could start over completely, with electrified, upgraded highspeed lines all over the place and proper train sets from a reliable provider.

Now "we're" going to be stuck with this for tens of years...

Why did DSB bought those trains in the first place?

So if I understand correctly there are no projects for any high speed rail networks?

I understand Denmark is a small, low populated country, but I was expecting to see some really efficient 22nd century rail systems!!!

Because of a debacle in Eastern Jutland ten years ago. The main intercity line in Denmark runs Copenhagen-Odense-Aarhus-Aalborg, at its second half (almost exclusively in Eastern J.) dates back to the 19th century. It respects the landscape. - In fact, it's so curvey it's about 60 km longer than the motorway connecting those very same cities. It was decided to straighten this line out, bypassing a handful of medium sized provincial towns - and this decision was crammed down the throats of the respective mayors. The thought was, once we have a reasonably straight line THEN we'll electrify it and be in the best of worlds. But, alas....

...the political winds changed and a new Social Democratic government changed the focus to rolling stock throught their admirably egalitarian programme "Good Trains for Everyone". The problem was, with the main line still not straightened out there was little rationale for electrifying. And, therefore, the "Good Trains" had to run on diesel. There are so few train manufacturers in Europe who make diesel trains for 200 km/h, so... enter AnsaldoBreda.

The very best place to follow railway activity at Copenhagen´s Main station is from this top floor room at the new WakeUp.com hotel.
Here are 2 S-trains, one with a special green livery, to emphasise the environmental advantages of train travel.

A new (Enghave, relocated 200m) S-train station is to be built beside the famous Carlsberg Brewery a kilometre from Copenhagen C.
Most of the brewing has moved to a modern brewery in Jutland and the old brewery is to be redeveloped into an exciting new township with many residents and office workers and cultural activities.
Maybe the new station should be renamed Carlsberg, as that is what the new town will be called.

The disused freight yards and the neighbouring slaughterhouse, situated at the edge of the exsisting town in Odense, have been cleared and are to be developed as shown, with housing and a large shopping centre.
Also included in the project is a pedestrian and cycle bridge (bottom right hand corner) across the tracks (with access to the platforms) linking the old town with the national railway museum and the new harbour area which is also under redevelopment.

Is this DSBs Plan B to get the IC4 trains running?
