That's great news! I'm genuinely looking forward to this being completed, it will certainly add to a new Identification for Leicester.

Almost certainly however it could mean the loss of the Phoenix Arts Centre which is already ane established theatre - more venues such as this need springing up in the Cultural Quarter in order for it to attract a greater number of tourists.

It would be nice to see a proper crane on site; as that would add a certain 'prestige' to the construction.

You're on your own on this one. RS06 - the crane spotter!

Haha, good old Leicity82 and his crane counts

I do agree Belgrave Boy, the Phoenix is a great little theatre - i've been many times and have enjoyed using it as a cinema and being able to enjoy a pint of beer while watching a film! But it was really beginning to become a little dated, and the interior becoming more tatty gave it a rough look rather than character.

I am pleased though that they will have a brand spanking new home in this build, I just hope something good can come of the Phoenix building.

I went down to where the DMC is being built and it looked like they were either building or dismantling a crane.

It also looks like they've got a fair bit of the steelwork for the western end already erected.

Great photos, much appreciated mph12

As this building is springing up, the view of the convereted factories along Morledge Street from the ring road is being obscured by the DMC which will when finished be a fantatsic building anyway. I think that Morledge street has a nice look to it with those converted mills and factories.

Thanks for the photos mph12.

This should help spur on the surrounding 'Eastside' scheme.

I'm new here, but I do know that the DMC is intended as a replacement for the Phoenix, showing many of the same kind of films and shows (along with Curve). The Phoenix owners are involved in the new build, along with De Montfort Uni and others...

Welcome to the forum owlyross. This is potentially a really good development, the mix of different uses, including small businesses. It will take the niche market of the Phoenix and expand it hopefully. It is also good that DMU is involved, giving students a chance to showcase their work, and then hopefully move into the business units once they graduate.

Thanks, yeah, it's great... I love the films shown at the Phoenix, and when I was at DMU 10 years ago, we'd have film lectures there. It'll stretch the new media stuff that's happening at DMU right now and allow the general public to see more of what this can bring to the city, which has to be good... I also have mates in the current LCB Depot so that's good too, it makes sense to have these creative businesses and venues in the same area, a proper "media" area of the town.

Welcome Owlyross.

More developments like these are needed in the city, especially in run-down areas.

Welcome Owlyross, nice to see another new member here

Also nice to see the DMC coming along.. I wonder what they'll do to improve the rest of that area? Humberstone Gate East and the areas behind the Athena are a real dogs dinner at the moment.

I thought I'd live up to my so called 'crane-spotter' name and take a photo (albeit a rather rubbish one) of the DMC crane:
