The Canal elevation isn't bad but the street elevation is awful. As for the tower, have you seen the size of those side windows? Definitely been value engineered from the original renders.

Looks a bit like the swimming pool at Loughborough uni (loads of pics on google images)..

I'm a fan of Southreef, definitely think it will stand the test of time.. Seen images of the Newton & Arkwright refurbishment and it looks very well designed and of high quality.

£6.5 million Energy Centre announced

Quote:
£6.5m energy research centre for Nottingham University

It is hoped the centre will be one of the lowest-carbon buildings in the country

A £6.5m research centre to develop low carbon technologies is to be built in Nottingham.

The building at the University of Nottingham's Jubilee Campus will include an energy testing facility and a rooftop laboratory.

Designers are aiming to make the Energy Technologies Building (ETB) one of the lowest-carbon buildings in the country.

Construction is expected to start in early 2011 with completion due in January 2012.

The project is being jointly funded by the university and the European
Regional Development Fund.
BBC news 13/9/10

Another Building for the iconic Jubilee campus. This looks as though it will sit in the gap between the Geospatial Building and the sports centre. Should fit in well. I can't figure where the Aerospace research centre will go yet tho.

Jubilee campus is planned to almost double in size Stig, they own the land where the (now demolished) gas cylinders were and I think are buying the former tobacco factory on the corner as well. They have ambitious plans.

I think a lot of the expansion is down to the international links to the Far East that most UK universities dont have. There is therefore more income and demand for places as well as investment from Chinese and Malay authorities (which the UK Gov'ment is encouraging )

Sounds awesome
The buildings have some height, and are quite big, but not too big making the tower/spire thing look smaller
Im glad they are making the st out of the place

Renders have recently been put on display of the new mental health research building that will be put on Jubillee alongside the sports centre.

Also in the news today, some excellent stuff heading towards Nottingham:

Quote:
University of Nottingham to benefit from share of £500m investment

The University of Nottingham is to benefit from a share of a £500 million of investment which will be pumped into the UK economy by a pharmaceutical manufacturing giant.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced the investment would include "a significant financial contribution" to build a new facility at the university's Jubilee Campus. The facility will focus on green chemistry technology - undertaking research and engineering aimed at minimising the use of substances harmful to the environment.

The building will also be a carbon neutral laboratory, serving as a prototype for similar projects elsewhere in the world.

The university's vice-chancellor, Professor David Greenaway, said: "It will shape the future of drug discovery."

The overall £500 million GSK investment plan will also include the construction of a new biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant elsewhere in the UK.

GSK's programme was highlighted by Chancellor George Osborne in the House of Commons yesterday as he sought to boost hopes that private sector investment would drive the UK's economic recovery.

GSK's CEO Andrew Witty said: "GSK is delighted to be entering into this new partnership with the University of Nottingham.

"It is one of the best universities in the UK for medicinal chemistry.

I think a lot of universities will start plowing all of their ill gotten extra cash into new buildings now as they all compete for a diminishing pool of rich students with high standards.

Does anybody have pictures of this campus? I think this is a real showcase of modern architecture in the region but it never seems to get much press... Some of the UK's leading architects have been involved here and I think it has the only building architected by the Make practice in the whole region?

There is such stunning high quality architecture here, real shame it wasn't built on a more prominent site like Eastside... its a massive asset to Nottingham.
