NOTTINGHAM | Trent Uni City Centre | Arkwright and Newton Buildings
A £70m Flagship move for the Uni
•A new main entrance from Goldsmith Street, creating a more lively, accessible and welcoming ‘front door’ to the City site close to the tram stop. •A Central Court which will act as a vibrant new focal point for the campus – an inspiring and open setting where students, staff and visitors can mix and meet. •The Newton Forum – described as the ‘learning and teaching powerhouse of the scheme’ – to be created in what is currently the basement and ground level of Newton. •Refurbishment of the upper floors in Newton to provide a flexible environment for general purpose teaching and academic offices. The top floor may become an open plan IT-rich study area boasting some 500 places. •Refurbishment of Newton south block, which fronts on to Burton Street, to create conference facilities and a highly professional setting for some of NTU’s ‘outreach’ activities. •A stunning link building to connect the east and west wings of Arkwright. Together with the Central Court, this will enable the university – for the first time in its history – to provide a single location for ‘customer- facing’ frontline services. Teams from areas such as registry, student services, careers and finance will offer a ‘one-stop-shop’ to help students as they progress through higher education. •The Arkwright quadrangle will be developed in the area of the building’s central wing. This will create a new open space easing circulation between facilities and providing space for events and recreation. The Chemistry Lab (Room 154) will be retained for dining, exhibitions, seminars and concerts. The quadrangle will provide “a new lung” for the university – a much-needed breathing space and a relaxing haven. •High-quality office space to be created in Arkwright for the directorate, student support and administrative teams along with committee and board rooms. image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr

The glazed roof will look really good...i remember someone on here comparing it to the British Library in London, and theyre right. It will look good with the tram running along side it. I hope they restore and clean up the taller building. It needs new windows and the stonework has got quite grotty over the years from pollution i guess.

This has all been in construction for ages now! I wonder how far they are with it?
I'm gonna climb the fence one night and see if I can get some pics

I was tempted to climb the fence until I noticed the razor wire along it. It looks really nasty stuff and more like something you would see on a prison wall.

I've had a look. The picture of the guy standing on the window cleaning crane is crazy.
Maybe when we get our Chek Whyte tower they can get in there and take some snaps from the roof. That'd look brilliant.

Its taking ages this one isnt it. From the 28 pics it looks like they're completely refurbing the existing buildings as well. What gets me is how are Trent Uni coping with the loss of all this floorspace? Where have all the staff and facilties been relocated to? Clifton?
The new building and open area on the west side of the Newton building will look really good. In fact we have so many high quality projects u/c near the tramline - Southreef, CCAN, Pod and this - the entire tram journey from High School to the station will be really impressive in a couple of years. And thats even before Broadmarsh and the station redevelopment. |

Yes, and of course it's no coincidence. Build a high quality transport link and people will build and invest in their property on the route.

Those pictures from 28days are from ages ago... internally it should be much more advanced... because the pictures I took yesterday of the exterior, don't look that much different from the exterior pics on 28 days...

Are they going to give the outside of the building a clean then aswell? It does look abit shabby from certain angles. I hope they remove that tatty looking silver window lining that is only on about 20 of the windows.

It was built in 1956.
Here's the website I got the info from. Check out the banner we have. Imagine if the skyline looked like that. http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=...-unitedkingdom
