It would have to be a very large restaurant. I am guessing that there is only a high enough demand in the City for it to be a Maryland!

It looks horrible and is completely out of tune with All Saint's church right next door. So it should get through planning without a problem.
I was worried at first that it would occupy the plot closer to the former Central Sation, which is a major opportunity to link the Highcross with the waterfront. Thankfully this blocky proposal is further up Highcross Street... |

Yes keep up the good work i guess we just just need need to aim a little lower with our expectations 'lower' being the word. If the building does get off the drawing board then 8 storeys in this spot would be quite an achievement.

Just what the city needs, more student flats for DMU...
...any guesses on which of the little guys goes bankrupt first? So many big student residences are going to play havoc with the smaller places like those above the charlotte. |

Above the Charlotte?
I thought they'd knocked the whole place down first.

That is actually a very new development. There was major building work above the Charlotte until about a year ago.

Very very hard to be building anything in the face of the worst economic conditions for decades and the possibility of the Eurozone going tits up.

Do these developers know that DMU had 8000 less applications this year? How on eart are they going to fill these developments with the drop in the amount of students over the coming years. Are they all stupid?

8,000 less applicants but there are still over 5 people applying for every space.

International students are unrestricted, as are students who have AAB grades, so in actual fact, it'll probably be Leicester Uni who are expanding as they have many more international and AAB students than DMU. Why not blame them for the amount of student accommodation? Also, the more dedicated student housing there is, the more bricks and mortar housing there is for local residents and professionals. |

Whoops - i meant to write 800. You know have to think that this uni is charging the same as Cambridge and Oxford. They are currently penalised for over recruiting in previous years. Would you go to DMU for £9000 or a better one for the same price? Applications at all universities are down but more so at universities like DMU. These developers don't seem to understand what is currently going on in our education system.
