Basically it outlines what we have discussed for various parts of the city centre to be improved-see Lears list in the city centre potential thread.

Latest LRC website article:

Interesting read, especially as we have been recently discussing issues of apartments:

Quote:
11th September 2007
Research scopes housing demand at Leicester’s waterside

There is a demand for houses as well as apartments at Leicester’s waterside, according to a new report prepared for Leicester Regeneration Company and its partners.

The study was carried out by CACI on behalf of LRC, Blueprint, English Partnerships and Leicester City Council.

The research focused on the demands of potential occupiers of properties in the area, considering both current market conditions and forecasts of Leicester’s economy in five years time, when significant regeneration activity has taken place. With developments underway in Leicester’s New Business Quarter, and the creation of a world-class science park, the future employment mix in the city is set to change.

David Beale, Development Manager at LRC said: “The Waterside area has the potential to provide a wide range of housing types and sizes. We wanted to help developers explore new markets, such as large apartments and houses, by removing some of the uncertainties about the demand for such accommodation. The research methodology is unique as it looks at future demand, and not just what has been done in the past.”

The research highlights gaps in Leicester’s housing market to rebalance the demographics of city residents in the future in line with what has been achieved elsewhere. Some of the key sales points for these potential new city residents will be living within a 10-minute walk into the city centre, links to the cultural activities in the city and a quiet residential area, the report says.

Other recommendations include:

Promote and create an urban oasis
Provide private gardens, roof terraces and communal roof gardens for young people and families
Promote and create a safe environment for children to play outside, for example through parks and playgrounds
Provide parking spaces close to properties

Leicester College development model:

ADP architects website

I couldn't remember if we had a Leicester College thread so I put it in this thread.

Drawing of the refurbishment into flats and a commercial unit of one of the attractive buildings in the Cultural Quarter (was a snooker club and seedy night club?):

The drawing of the building in the Cultural Quarter looks really interesting, does anybody have any photos?

is that the old die hard club and swingers gaff? if it is it looks great and about time that building was done up. its a rite mess at the minute and bang opposite the pac thing, actually the pac detracts from the appaerance of a great old building like the die hard club (wen renovated).

Leicester needs a large exhibition hall

To house a regular showpiece trade exhibition.

Bosses fear the lack of a major business expo in the city means the economy is losing out to neighbouring areas.

Business leaders want to see shows with upto 100 exhibitors

Martin Traynor Managing director of the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce says "one of the biggest disadvantages in Leicester is that The Walkers Stadium is the biggest exhibition site we have got (36 exhibitors)." "If we are going to have 100 stands we need a big arena". "we are hoping somebody will build something of the size to do that."

Hmmmm a multi purpose sports, concert and exhibition centre ?????????

Why do Leicester businesses always seem to expect someone else to put up the cash?

If the LCoC wants it so bad maybe it's time they stumped up

Good point. If business expect more investment or whatever maybe they should literally put the money where their mouth is?

There seems to be progess at the former Crown House building on Lower Hill Street. The part where new mini 'tower' bit will be built is currently being surveyed and there's a bore hole machine working there at present - which usually is a sign of construction starting imminently. After years of waiting it's about time something was happening at that site.

On the clock tower side of the former Littlewoods building they're erecting a a huge metal frame. Wishful thinking - but could it be the base for a huge LED display or TV screen as we've been discussing previously???
