What is the facility just inside the north end of the tunnel? (linky only because I can't get the embedding code to work. )
I'm assuming the person who shot the vid was part of the works crew.

What facility? I suppose there are some parkings for emergency vehicles, that's all.

Widening of the A1/A2 duplex can proceed!

This 9 km section will be widened from 2x2 to 2x3 lanes. This section carries 90.000 vehicles per day and is the busiest Swiss motorway not located near a larger city.

Fantastic. Above all, that should help to stop the North-South traffic on busy holiday weekends blocking the East-West traffic (that's the section shared by A1 and A2).

A TV report about the closure of the Gotthard road tunnel: http://la1.rsi.ch/falo/welcome.cfm?i...ds=0&idc=41385 (37 minutes only in italian, only Suburbanist could then watch it).

It doesn't say nothing more except that a report from the ministry of transport will be presented in december (I don't know if also to the public).

Incredible congestion in western and northern Switzerland.

There is a 172 kilometer traffic jam on A1 between Avanches and Winterthur-Ost.

I believe that's for the Gotthard - Brünig connection, which is currently missing on Verzweigung Lopper. You can only go from Luzern to Brünig and vice versa.

routes.tomtom.com

The great thing about TomTom HDtraffic is that it also detects traffic congestion on roads and motorways where there are no frequent detection loops (which are more motorways than you might think). This way, traffic congestion due to snowfall can be mapped much more accurate than with the traditional traffic information.

Boring status of the tunnels south of Visp on the A9. I haven't seen a newer drawing like this, but from the Staldbach side of the Eyholz tunnel around 1 km of the northern bore and around 1.7 km of the southern have been bored. This tunnel is around 4.4 km in length, so considering alsot he other side it should have been nearly completed.

grey = to be bored
red = bored but not finished
green = in service since some years now (one lane per direction)

The ASTRA (one of the divisions of the ministry of transports, energy and environment) gave his blessing to an oversize transport on the A13, without noticing that it was actually larger (around 5.2 m) than the road (4.8 m, in this points 2x1). The barrier dividing the two directions had to be dismantled.
