You mean like I-80? You mean like with an "I"? How do you know if an expressway is signed?

It is 'signed' when the signs with whatever number/design are physically placed along the road.

But, those PR roads with Interstate Route numbers are not signed WITH their Interstate numbers, therefore they are unsigned INTERSTATE routes.

yeah, that is what I meant.... they are not signed with the "official" interstate shield/number. These is the case of all Alaska and Puerto Rico Interstates.. and until just recently Hawaii's Interstate H201 which was signed as Hawaii State Route 78 until only a few years ago when they finally changed it to Intestate H201 with its official sign. Even to the day portions of H201 and directional signs to H201 are still signed as SR78

Well, freeways are expressways that are free to use.

Highways in my definition are elevated expressways.

Puerto Rico doesn't really have freeways, I wanted to suggest we change the name of the thread to Puerto Rican Expressways because a majority of expressways here are not really free.

A tollways is an expressway with tolls, not free lolz.

A freeway is a road that is free flowing. Like a motorway or Autobahn.

I agree with you Chris. To me a freeway is a limited access road that is free of traffic lights (and therefore free flowing) regardless of whether is tolled or not. The term highway is not uniquely used for elevated roads and/or viaducts but for all major roads regardless of whether on grade or elevated. Expressway is just another term for freeway in my opinion.... but perhaps could be a freeway with limited entries/exits or a high occupancy freeway/lanes?

Woops my bad!

I was reading around Wikipedia and learned!

So apparently, PR-22, PR-52, PR-53 and PR-66 are freeways.

PR-1, PR-2 and PR-3 are expressways.

New PR-10 segment. This is an expressway (I found) similar to Crowsnest Hwy in Vancouver, BC

Who pays for these new freeways? The Feds or PR government?

Well, I would assume that the tollways are mostly covered by toll revenue, but I'm not sure on the rest.

Anyways, there are new interstate-compatible highways under construction in Puerto Rico - one in and west of Ponce and the other, involving extensive tunneling, running southward from Humacao.

It's likely been mentioned in this thread (EDIT: Like at the top of this page...whoops LOL), but PR has unsigned interstate highways.
