NBTD's Travels: OSLO (56 Pics)

Places already visited

Amsterdam - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=500522
Copenhagen - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=501603
Berlin - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=510259

Oslo

So, having shown you all the places mentioned above. Its time to move on to the capital city of Norway. I had my expectations that Oslo would be an expensive city, surrounded by natural beauty, rather clean and efficient, with the superb services and quality of life you expect of every Scandinavian city.

And, to certain extents these expectations were accurate, the city was expensive (unfortunately), and it was surrounded by outstanding natural beauty - in a few minutes on the train you are out of the city and at the top of a peaceful mountain. And it did have very good public transport - buses, trams and metro running quite frequently for a pretty small city.

However, i was pretty surprised at the amount of beggars/druggies and alcoholics i saw on the streets of Oslo (in all honesty, it was far more than i have seen in any other city). And, like every city it has its grubby, run-down areas (although we are lead to believe these don't exist in Norway )..

But, having said that - Oslo has is beautiful parts and is well worth a visit.

Great picture thread. I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures, especially the weird sculptures.

This one is hilarious

We looked at mountains until dawn, and then when dawn came, it was too pretty for me - there was pink and blue and gold, in the sky, and on icy places, brilliant pink and gold flashes, and the snow was colored too, and I said," Oh," and sighed; and each moment was more beautiful than the one before; and I said, " I love you, Momma." Then I fell asleep in her arms.
That was happiness then.

i went to Bergen too - 'The Gateway to the Fjords' so pics of that still to come.

Unfortunately i didnt get any pics of the more run-down areas, you will just have to make do with the nice parts of town

I think most cities would kill for a location like this (provided cities were actual living entities )
