Majid Al Futtaim Properties commences work on its first mixed-use development in Syria

Majid Al Futtaim Properties, the developer and operator of shopping malls together with hotels and mixed-use ýcommunity projects in the MENA region, announced that it has commenced the works on the first phase of Khams Shamat, its 1.5 million square meters mixed-use project in Syria.

The project, which is being developed in the Yaafour district, 17 km west of the Damascus, will bedevelopedthrough multiple phaseswith an estimated cost exceeding $1bn.

Peter Walichnowski, CEO, Majid Al Futtaim Properties, said, "The first stage of laying down the infrastructure and foundations for phase one of the Khams Shamat project took place on 27th of July 2011 in preparation for the buildings' development and the completion of works related to roads, electricity, water, sanitation, and public services."

Waddah El Solh,the Company's Regional Head of Syria and Lebanon, stated that all necessary preparations required to proceed with the execution of the project have already been accomplished including the evaluation and review of the designs, and engineering plans for the architecture and implementation of the project. Specialized and experienced project management and construction teams have also been allocated.

Mr. El Solh also stressed the large amount of groundwork to be done on the site, due to the project's scale and the nature of the area's terrain.

Mr. El Solh assured, "Our commitment to seeing this project through is based on our belief in the development of this landmark project, and our ambition of becominglong-term partners in the economic and social development in Syria."

Upon completion, Khams Shamat will include international hotels, apartments, touristic venues consisting of restaurants and cafes, galleries and showrooms, a high-profile business area, the largest mall in the Levant region with family entertainment centerand multiplex theatres, and numerous other entertainment and hospitality outlets to host touristic, commercial and recreational activities. In addition, it will comprise educational and cultural facilities surrounded by large open spaces and vastgreenery and landscapes.

Khams Shamat is among four major projects currently being developed by Majid Al Futtaim Properties in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Lebanon.

Why dont the moderator add the Syrian thread to the principal section of the middle east with the rest of the countries?? we should make a call to the moderator!!! theres a lot of interestment in the syrian thread as this country is seeing an investment BOOM!!
