Have You Walked Any Bridges?
Have You walked any of the Bridges in the city?
I've walked the Brooklyn Bridge twice and Manhattan Bridge once. Brooklyn was far more enjoyable but pretty crowded of course. Manhattan Bridge was during the forum meet back in 2005, it was basically just us and the damn N train is a pain in the ass over there! |

I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and watched the sun from the center of the span.
Mesmerizing. |

i've biked over the brooklyn, manhattan, williamsburg, queensboro, triboro, pulaski and george washington bridges. my favorite is the williamsburg because it's basically a bike expressway and you can hit delancey street straight off the bridge at upwards of 30mph.

well the Brooklyn bridge obviously like any good tourist, but I've also biked the GWB on my way to NJ, the triboro bridges, the Queensboro just halfway, and that bridge that leads to the Yankee stadium.

I used to run the brooklyn bridge on an almost daily basis. However, this was 5+ years ago when I was an amature boxer training out of gleasons gym in bk. I miss those years!
Other than that, I walked and biked williamsburg bridge a few times as a kid in HS. |

Do I!
I walk and jog the Williamsburg bridge all the time. I also usually use my skateboard to get across. Its my favorite bridge with really good views of the skyline and a great place to go and see the july 4th fireworks. It does have quite alot of graffiti but even though i think it's the best bridge in the city. |

When I lived in Bkln Heights, my lunch routine was to run the bridge. About a three mile run with the most amazing view in the country. At first I worried about polution from the cars passing under the promenade, but there was always a great breeze through there and I don't think it was much of an issue. I used to see the same people running every single day. I got mugged on that bridge at dusk one night. Very few people out and a fella pushed ahead of me as I was walking down the steps to come off the bridge and put a knife to my gut. He was whacked out and I gave him what he asked for - but it scared me silly. Some nice foreigners saw it and came and checked to see if I was ok. I didn't tell my parents about that incident for six months. I had just moved to the city from the midwest and didn't want them to worry. Ended up being my only mugging in 6 years, though.
I will warn you, though ... if you walk the bridge, stay out of the bike lane! |

You know, i've always worried the same could happen to me. Iv'e walked the williamsburg bridge at around 2 or 3 am. when returning from Greenpoint, yet i've never been mugged. I really hope it never happens either or i'll be forced to swim across instead...

I would walk home on the pulaski and williamsburg bridges at ALL hours of the night, and never feel unsafe. I would ride my bike too... it's a safe place. Chassidic women chatting on their blinged-up cell phones at ALL hours.

You're absolutely right. It is safe and i know that. I was just saying that i hope it never happened. Greenpoint near the Pulaski bridge does look a bit shaby dangerous and all. But it's really safe so what the heck.

I've walked over Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges. Manhattan is the best one for the views.

Let see, Thanks to Bike NY, I have biked over the Madison Ave Bridge, 3rd Ave Bridge, Queensboro Bridge, Pulaski Bridge and The Verrazano Bridge. Other bridges I've walked across are the Broadway Bridge, Henry Hudson Bridge, University Heights (207th st) Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, Roosevelt Island Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, George Washington Bridge, 'the little george' Washington Bridge (@181st st.) and the 145th st. Bridge.
IDK if you're even allowed to walk over the Throgs Neck, Whitestone or Tri-boro anyone know? I know the Verrazano is offlimits that's the cool thing about the Bike NY tour every May, if you can make it -- watta view! One bridge I wish I could walk over would be the Kosciuszko Bridge -- Whatta view that would be. |
