Very interesting. I truly hope that this project along with others are constructed in the manner that they we're proposed/approved.

That it is. From the Greenville News:

Gov. Nikki Haley is scheduled to join Greenville developer Bob Hughes on Wednesday to announce a new development at the high-profile site on Main Street where the Woolworth building used to be, Hughes said.

Hughes declined to release details or say who might take space in the development, planned on property cleared and fenced at the corner of North Main and Washington streets.

Hughes did say that he and Haley “won’t be the only people there.”

“It’s exciting. It’s been a lot of work for a long time,” Hughes said.

Greenville Mayor Knox White also declined to provide details.

“I think everyone will be very pleased with what will be announced on Wednesday. It’s been a long journey,” the mayor said.

Greenville City Council has set aside $4 million to redesign the plaza and adjacent streets in conjunction with development.

The announcement is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Piazza Bergamo, the plaza at the corner of Main and Coffee streets.

We are the best kept secret in the universe. Our mission is to monitor economic development activity in Greenville, SC. We are your best, last, and only line of defense. We work in secret, we exist in shadow. And we dress in black....

Representatives from several of the major tenants lined up to fill the space, including one of the state's most prestigious law firms, a well-known national retailer, and a new corporate headquarters locating in South Carolina, will also be there.

From my media source:

Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd is the lawfirm. Can't name the corporate HQ company or retailer yet. The new project by Hughes Development Corp., coined “Project One,” will happen in two phases. Phase one will include 40,000 to 50,000 square feet of retail and 135,000 square feet of office space. Nine stories tall. Construction is set to begin in July. The building will include a partial green roof with living plants. Phase two will involve up to 11 stories and an additional 200,000 square feet of space for more offices or potentially a hotel. The development is set to open in the third quarter or early fourth quarter of 2012, with the retailer opening in 2013.

Price tag of project is $100 million according to the Greenville News. $18.5 million from GNMO and $7.5 million from TD Bank. Buildings will be LEED silver certified. Brasfield & Gorrie is the building contractor. Oh and regarding phase II:

“We literally got a letter of intent this morning that could only be accommodated in phase two,” Hughes told GreenvilleOnline.com

Possibly as one of the additional retail tenants. The signature high-rise is still planned and will be built in one of the later phases.

"Signature High-rise"? do you mean the 11 story building? I thought there was supposed to be something in the 20 something floor range planned? Did I miss something? I just seen the 9 floor building and the 11 floor building on phase two.

There are three buildings planned it looks like: nine story one in phase I, 11 story one in phase II, and signature highrise in phase III. The 11 story and signature highrises are still being designed.

Possibly with the signature highrise slated for phase III but it's hard to say at this time due to it still being designed. It's also dependent on what type of space the building will consist of (office, residential, hotel, etc.) and how many tenants sign on. Luckily, all financing is complete for the project so we don't have to worry about any delays or it stalling out thank goodness.
