because they are just interested in profit making, and have no concern for the communities they are affecting (or creating)
But I guess development by public bodies isn't always perfect either |

At the same time it can be argued that they make improvements to an area, create jobs and instill confidence which in turn creates more jobs, pride and self respect. Business is business and we all want to make a profit, be rich, live in beautiful surroundings and shop till we drop. It is called AMBITION ... without it you are the living dead.

I have visited your beautiful country's section. I truly love NZ and itc urban lay-out, however, what has stunned me is the fact that in most photos (even those I've seen on Google Earth) almost never have I seen a soul walking in the streets or public squares. I have seen so only in just a few photos. Please correct me if I am wrong, but if this is the case, could someone explain? I find it highly interesting as a subject to know and ponder upon. Just to mention that Greek cities have much higher density in comparison to NZ, for sure, but the car ownership here is extremely high and yet, the sidewalks and squares have lots of people round the clock.

There are always a few unscrupulous developers out there, and this is certainly an example of one of them. I would however caution everyone that this particular experience shouldn't be applied so that it tarnishes the reputation of all developers.

That is a real shame. Perhaps they were simply testing the waters. I believe that there will be a lot more projects of this scale once we pull out of this recession.

Hey, if land has already been purchased for a 100-150 room hotel in central Invercargill, I guess a 5-star one in Hamilton is plausible =/
Now where's the Palmerston North Club Med? |

in reality, building real power in the ecomony isn't just about making money, it's the associated things that provide real strength in an economy if your society is rubbish because everyone lives in massive slums, then it's irrelevant how much money development brings into the economy... |
