those boats have been there for well over a year probably longer, the diving school has been there for about 3 years. Walk the plank is used for discos and theatre but probably can't affored the albert mooring costs. The red light ship is unlikey to stay.

I agree about the effect of having boats in the docks, or better still, real ships - you can't beat an image like this:

Nice photos Woody. That park is owned by the NWDA and is private property. I imagine that it's part of the corridor they can't build on because of the train line into Moorfields?

Thanks for the photos Woody. Sorry I didn't join you yesterday but I would have had to leave early as we were going to the Arabic Festival in Heswall.
Those statues of King George V and Queen Mary used to stand at the rear of the tunnel headwall but were moved when the flyover was constructed. In fact, although the tunnel is called Queensway, in honour of Queen Mary, the Old Haymarket entrance was named Kingsway, presumably in honour of her husband. That would have been very confusing when the Second Mersey Tunnel was given the same name and so it has been dropped. Of course, until Kingsway opened, nobody referred to the Birkenhead Tunnel as Queensway, it was simply the Mersey Tunnel. To add further confusion, the Runcorn Widnes Bridge is also officially called Queensway. I like that open area to the rear of Mercury Court, which of course is the old Exchange Station site. If it wasn't earmarked for the Pall Mall development, it would be good to see the whole area used as a park. I always think that the buildings and their rectangular arrangement is reminiscent of New York, especially since the X Building has been opened. |
