Gardeners World and it's 'mystery location' in city. I'll miss Berryfields but didn't realise it was Stratford, thought it was even closer to us.

Gardeners' World comes from secret Birmingham location
Apr 3 2009 by Paul Bradley, Birmingham Post

The BBC’s Gardeners’ World will hit television screens in a radical new format tonight when it airs its first show from a top-secret plot of land in the heart of Birmingham.

Viewers of the channel’s flagship gardening programme will be introduced to a gnome who spies on presenters, a what’s hot and what’s not blackboard and an outdoor cooking lesson.

A secret garden paradise in Birmingham
Apr 3 2009 By Alice Hemmings

A Birmingham building site is soon to be transformed into a beautiful garden in a new series of BBC Gardeners’ World. Alice Hemmings takes a look.

Ankle deep in rubble and dust, it’s hard to believe that this muddy building site is soon to become Britain’s best-loved garden – especially as it is television’s best-kept secret.

The four acres of unused and untamed land in the heart of Birmingham are to be transformed, episode by episode, into a botanical paradise in the new series of Gardeners’ World, which begins tonight on BBC2.

It may be the most dramatic change to the green-fingered television programme but it is far from the only one.

The team has left the idyllic Berryfields garden in the more rural setting of Stratford-upon-Avon, which was for years lovingly cared for by previous presenter Monty Don and his colleagues.

Greenacre in the more urban setting of central Birmingham is now the fresh face of the cult series – and ushering it in will be the equally fresh-faced Toby Buckland who is facing his first full season of presenting the show after taking over from Monty last year.

From what I could make out, the new Gardeners World site looks like it could be part of Birmingham University next to Winterbourne Botanic Garden But I could be wrong

the BBC website are having a week of 'Cityscape' specials, looking at how 5 UK cities have changed. First up is (suprise of all suprises) Manchester. Wonder if Brum will get a look at?

I thought the article was quite a cynical view of Manchester too.

If the 'Changing Cityscapes' graphic (see below) is anything to go by, we'll also see Newcastle (and presumably Gateshead will be lumped in with this), London, and somewhere else I don't recognise straight away (the armoured slug). Which leaves somewhere else not pictured (or pictured, but I'm missing it).

The black building on the left might be the Hill Street Monstrosity! That'd show the BBC REALLY have it in for Brum
