![]() Taken yesterday at guindy bus stop. The info is currently available for 21G and D70. They should have the following info instead "Minutes for arrival | Route no | Destination" in a single line. That way, there can be info on the next two buses rather than one. Last edited by PlaneMad; September 3rd, 2007 at 11:52 AM. |

Triumph Int'l sets up mfg unit in India, near Chennai
Triumph International, the world's largest manufacturer of women's innerwear is setting up its own manufacturing unit in India which is said to be one of the largest manufacturing units in the country, with an area of 5, 60,000 sq ft area at Maramalai Nagar, near Chennai.
Today the company has a presence in India through Intimate Fashions, a joint venture with MAST Industries, the makers of Victoria's Secret, and the MAS Group. This factory is in Gudavanchery (on the outskirts of Chennai) and majority of Intimate Fashions' production is for Victoria's Secret and a small portion for Triumph International India. Triumph International has its new factory set on 14 acres and covers over 5 lakh sq ft. In the first phase, it would have a seating capacity of over 1,300. In the second phase, the factory will accommodate over 2500 sewing operators, creating job opportunities for thousands of women in Chennai. Mr. Rosenberg revealed that the investment in this venture was close to double digit million dollars. Triumph, a German company, has 16 factories all over the world and this would be the 17 th. "One of the main reasons for locating a factory in India was to be close 'to the next big thing' meaning the next growth market after China. Organized retailing is expected to boom in the next few years and this will lead to the growth of brands such as Triumph", said Jan Rosenberg, Director on Board, Triumph International. Thorsten Allenstein, General Manager and Country head Triumph India, said the company had selected Chennai because of the proximity to airport, seaport and an investor-friendly Government. Chennai also has a good labour base with experience in readymade garment industry, he added. He said the company is able to maintain the quality of its products in all the countries it operates in because all components are sourced centrally in Hong Kong. All the material is imported which increases the cost of the products. About 80 per cent of the products manufactured in the factory in Chennai will be exported, while the rest would be for the domestic market, he said. The average price of the lingerie would range from Rs 400 to Rs 1200. "We are currently focusing on women's innerwear and are making sure Indian women have access to Triumphs complete international collection here in India. The company also plans to launch its premium men's wear brand, Sloggi Men, in India, shortly", Said Rosenberg. http://news.moneycontrol.com/mccode/...?autono=301032 |

CHENNAI: A National Cancer Institute will be set up in the city, Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said here on Sunday.
The institute, to be set up in the Central Government Medical Depot, would be of international standards and would include a research organisation that would have a tie-up with international cancer research organisations in Washington, USA and Leon, France. The 16.2-acre depot comprises a heritage building dating back to 1808, a host of unusable structures and the 30-year-old Central Drug Testing Laboratory building. The depot stored medicines worth crores of rupees supplied them during emergencies and for UNICEF and World Health Organisation programmes. Reliance, Tata, L&T in race for railway station modernisation
http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryP...+modernisation
The long-pending modernisation of India's 22 large railway stations is finally getting on track. The government is set to invite expressions of interest (EoIs) from private players by the end of the month and top corporate houses like the Tatas, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) and Larsen & Tourbro (L&T) will compete to bag the Rs-10, 000 crore project. The facelift would include stations like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Patna, Chennai, Agra, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bhopal, Howrah, Jaipur and Lucknow. "The total project cost is likely to be over Rs 10,000 crore," said a source close to the railway ministry. "The construction and management of facilities at these stations is being proposed on a Design-Build-Finance-Operate basis (DBFO). The PM cleared it in the Cabinet meeting in June," said a top railway board official. Interestingly, companies that had bagged the contract to modernise airports in the country are also set to join the race. Bangalore-based GMR, which is upgrading New Delhi airport, is understood to be keen, according to investment banking sources. "We are very interested if it is a BOOT project (Build-Operate-Own and Transfer)," said a top GMR official. International funds and multinationals like GE also could also join the race. A senior L&T official said: "Of course, we are interested. The exact project details will have to be cleared by the government first." Spokespersons from both the Tatas and ADAG declined to comment. The project's major attraction could well be the right to develop over 80 hectares of land, spread over various railway stations, for a specified time period. The land will be handed over to the consortium that bags the contract. |

Update on L&T Shipyard (as on 25th Aug)
http://www.business-standard.com/com...o=295759&tab=r
Gets shareholders' approval for GDR issue at Luxembourg Stock Exchange. Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the country’s biggest construction and engineering company, announced it would raise Rs 2,800 crore ($700 million) through a global depository issue (GDR), most of which will be used to build a new shipyard. The proposed equity sale would take place at Luxembourg Stock Exchange, Chairman A M Naik told shareholders at the company’s 62nd annual general meeting. The company had offered two bonus issues – one 3:5 in 1986 and 1:1 last year. The fund will be used to part finance L&T’s capital expenditure of Rs 4,500 crore this year. Of this, about Rs 2,000 crore will be utilised for setting up the shipyard on 500 acres. The company is also seeking a yen-denominated loan equivalent to $200 million (Rs 800 crore) from Barclays Plc, HSBC Holdings Plc and Citigroup Inc, according to bankers. “We have shortlisted two sites, one in Gujarat and another in Tamil Nadu, for the shipyard. We will announce the exact location next month,” Naik said. L&T is one among four companies that is keen to build two mega shipyards of international standard. The other companies are Korean STX, Shapoorji Pallonji and Bharti Shipyard. A report earlier this month quoted a government official as saying that the shipping ministry had identified Kakinada, Ennore and Tuticorin on the east coast and Mundra and Pipavav on the west coast. L&T is also joining the special economic zone (SEZ) bandwagon. It has decided to set up two SEZs. Naik said the engineering services SEZ would come up in Vadodara. The other one would come up near the company’s proposed shipbuilding facility. Describing the outlook for the company, Naik said that the company had targeted a 25 per cent growth in revenue at Rs 23,000 crore by the end of this year. Consolidated revenue, taking the subsidiaries and associate companies into account, may go up to Rs 26,000 crore by the year-end from Rs 21,000 crore last year. The L&T stock today closed at Rs 2,443.8 on the BSE, 1.98 per cent higher. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BULDING SPREE Fund to part finance capital expenditure of Rs 4,500 crore this year Rs 2,000 crore for shipyard to be set up either in Guj or TN The company is also seeking a yen-denominated loan equivalent to $200 million |

good idea and always nice to see new inovations. I would however think they need to improve on building bus shelters before going for electronic displays. How many bus stops along the D70 route has a shelter first ?

Chennai to get speciality-imaging centre
http://www.indiaprwire.com/businessn...0904/24270.htm
The Bangalore based HealthCare Global Enterprises (HCG) and GE Healthcare Tuesday said they would set up a molecular imaging centre here to address the growing oncology needs of the region. Their first such centre was opened in Bangalore in June. The Chennai centre will cater to patients from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, the company said. Molecular imaging is a combination of fields such as biology, medicine, pharmaceutics, physics, chemistry and engineering that allows physicians to detect, treat and monitor disease at the body's cellular levels. Molecular imaging and scanning capabilities make multi-medical therapy possible. 'The molecular imaging centre in Bangalore has received tremendous response from patients across Karnataka,' Ajai Kumar, Chairman, HealthCare Global Enterprises said here. 'We have successfully diagnosed and treated about 300 patients since the opening of the Bangalore facility in June. Through this technology, we can offer a definitive diagnosis that can help the patient avoid unnecessary painful procedures,' he added. HCG plans to set up multiple oncology centres across India with centres of excellence at strategic locations, the company said. These centres will house complete molecular imaging and cancer treatment facilities and will provide material and technical support to smaller oncology centres. The Chennai facility will have some of the most advanced set of cancer and cardiac disease detection tools. It will house a high-capacity cyclotron from GE. 'Molecular imaging has huge potential to enable detection of diseases at a much earlier stage and change the way we manage the patient today,' said V. Raja, president and chief executive officer, GE Healthcare South Asia. |

Multi-level parking project yet to take off
CHENNAI: Several years after they were suggested, multi-level vehicle parking facilities are yet to take off in Chennai despite a significant increase in the number of vehicles.
Sources in the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) said a file pertaining to proposed multi-level parking facilities in the city is pending with the State Government for sometime now. Though the project figured in the policy documents several times, it did not progress beyond that. It was proposed “with a view to manage the burgeoning traffic problem,” in 2003 by the Housing and Urban Development Department in seven locations — Panagal Park, Flower Bazaar, CMDA Tower in Egmore, Luz Corner, Purasawalkam, Central Station and Kodambakkam. “A pilot project at a cost of Rs.47 crore to provide for parking 450 cars and 750 two-wheelers at a time in existing car park area abutting Panagal Park is under examination by the Government,” according to a budgetary demand that year. The project was to be developed on a Build-Operate-Transfer mode. Mecon Limited, a Government of India enterprise, was hired to provide a feasibility report for developing multi-level car parking complexes at six locations, according to a CMDA brochure brought out in 2006. Land acquisition was scheduled to begin on completion of the study. The six locations to be taken up for the study were a strip of land east of Panagal Park, Broadway Bus Stand, MUC Ground near Flower Bazaar, the existing bus terminal at T. Nagar, Government Estate at Anna Salai and Metropolitan Transport Corporation workshop site on Pattulous Road. Parking study A detailed parking study has been carried out by consultancy firm Wilbur Smith Associates Private Ltd., Chennai, “encompassing the demand and supply levels, critical issues, management solutions and regulations to evolve an effective parking policy for Chennai Metropolitan Area,” according to a budgetary demand from the Housing and Urban Development Department for 2005-06. The consultant in the study had identified nine priority areas for both multi-level parking, as well as on-street and off-street parking arrangements, within the Chennai Metropolitan Area. Mecon Limited had approached the CMDA for execution of certain projects of this nature, since it had expertise in this field, the document said. Project report The CMDA had decided to prepare Detailed Project Report for the six locations within the Chennai Metropolitan Area. It proposes to take up implementation of the project in the Panagal Park area on a pilot basis. CMDA officials say government approval is awaited. Minister for Information and CMDA chairman Parithi Illamvazhuthi recently said the project is being fast-tracked. http://www.hindu.com/2007/09/05/stor...0561660300.htm |
