IOC refinery update ...

http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus...0709101965.htm

Behuria, also the Chairman of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), said CPCL and IOC were contemplating setting up a Rs.45,000 crore 'grassroot refinery-cum-petrochemical' complex at suburban Ennore.

Tamil Nadu Government had appointed a committee, headed by the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, to identify land for the project, he said adding the new project needed 3000 acres of land.

Engineers India Limited, who had been contracted to prepare the pre-feasibility study on the project, would hand over its report by this month end. It would be an export oriented refinery, he said.

Ride Simulation Theatre in Spencers Plaza Chennai

Disney World has it. Universal Studios has it. Now, Chennai has it, too.

What are we talking about?

Ride Simulation Theatre (RST) has arrived in Chennai. This show, the first-of-its-kind in the country, was developed first by Flight Avionics, a UK company. Premier Funtech is the Indian company which has the license to manufacture RST in India.

The theatre has an Eighteen-seater platform, which moves and gyrates according to the visuals on the screen. The film is screened by a projector and computer-generated images appear on screen. The movement of the seats on the platform synchronises with the visuals appearing on screen. This gives a three dimensional effect and the rider feels as if he is moving along with the images.

Each show lasts for seven minutes and at present, they have 18 varieties of rides. Some of the rides are Roller coaster, High Speed Jet, Pyramid Explorations, River Rides, Car Racing and Space Sojourns.

J. C. D. Prabhakaran, one of the Directors of the company, says, " Every time I came to Spencer plaza, I found that there were no entertainment centres for the shopper." He added, "For any fun centre in Chennai, people have to travel around thirty kilometres outside the city. I thought a place like this in the heart of the city, would attract more crowds."

Plans are on the anvil for opening one more theatre in Anna Nagar and three more outside the city - in Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy.

TN’s software exports race past Rs 20,000-crore mark

State Scores Growth Of 46.6% In 2006-07

SUSTAINING the boom in the IT sector, software exports from Tamil Nadu grew 46.66% to cross the Rs 20,000-crore mark for 2006-07, according to estimates made by the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI).

The state clocked export revenues of Rs 20,701.70 crore last year, against Rs 14,115 crore in 2005-2006, surpassing industry expectations, and on the back of expansion by top-tier software and BPO companies. This is against a national growth of 32.6%, as projected by Nasscom Strategic Review 2007............

Thumbs up Sai Baba agrees to help clean up Cooum

Hopefully the state government utilizes this offer fully so that Chennai and Cooum can Get rid off that Stinking River / City Tag for ever!!!

http://www.hindu.com/2007/09/11/stor...1152620500.htm

The State Government has sought the help of Sri Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi for cleaning the Cooum.

Public Works Department Minister Durai Murugan, who along with Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin called on Sri Baba on Sunday, told The Hindu on Monday that Sri Baba responded favourably to the government’s idea. While Sri Baba could fund the activities for clearing the river of silt, and construction of flood protection walls on either side of the river, it would be the government’s responsibility to make the banks encroachment-free and prevent entry of sewage into the river.

Sri Baba agreed to send a team of experts to study the proposal and prepare an estimate. Only then would the cost of the project be known, Mr. Durai Murugan said. At present, the improvement of canals, forming part of the Krishna water supply system, was being undertaken with the help of the Sathya Sai Trust. Sri Baba also agreed to visit the canals on completion of the work, Mr. Durai Murugan said.

Meanwhile, issues and problems concerning the Cooum are to be taken up under the World Bank-assisted Irrigated Agriculture Modernisation and Water Bodies Restoration and Management. As irrigation is being carried out in the upper reaches, officials were mulling over introduction of micro-irrigation there so that the water will flow continuously in the lower reaches, where pollution is the major issue. If the flow is ensured, the pollution can be mitigated. A model has been proposed to be developed to tackle the problems.

Dont get this. Is Velachery and Taramani come under PMK Belt? No reasonable human being would like PMK for the kind of Crap they dish out but still MK should not take out his anger on the common people who would be using this facility!!!! Maybe an indication that our politicians have not forgotton the old vindictive style of running the office Permanent Menace Katchi (PMK)

This may not be true.

I think CRS ( Commissioner of Railway Safety has asked SR to replace rails at some sections which will take some time
