In aesthetics, this must be the second best upcoming IT park in Chennai. The most well designed IT park for me is the Chennai Tech park promoted by India land.
in my opinion the chennai tech park on completion would be one of the best mid-rises in india......

Project report on Chennai Metro soon...nothing new.....

Quote:
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is expected to submit a detailed project report on the proposed Metro railway project in Chennai by this month-end. The Tamil Nadu Government will then take a decision on construction of the 46-km rail corridor comprising two lines.

The first line will run between Washermenpet and the airport, while the second will run between Chennai Port and St. Thomas Mount. The railway line will have 14.25 km of underground stretch and 31.75 km of elevated stretch and is likely to cost Rs.11,000 crore.

Tamil Nadu Transport Minister K. N. Nehru visited the Delhi Metro on Monday accompanied by Chennai Transport Commissioner C. P. Singh. The visitors, who travelled between Central Secretariat and Ramakrishna Ashram, were shown the rail network and its functioning.

Appreciating the Metro rail, Mr. Nehru described it as a “highly economical and efficient system” and said it must be extended to other metros and big cities.

The new cricket stadium is also coming up here in Karunguzhipallam village.
The government had earlier leased 50 acres to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association for the stadium.

I wonder if one would be able to see matches free of cost from the top of the IT park

Perambur township - Binny mill land

Last sunday I visited the 70 acre binny mill (Buckingham and Carnatic Mills) land & took photographs. Kalpathi Properties, the real estate arm of SSI Lt, last year announced that it is going to construct a township with 12000 crore investment. But nothing happened after that. I asked the security person and he said it has been sold to one american company by SSI and soon a five star hotel will be constructed first and then the residential project. I doubt his words. Anybody knows anything about this project?

Part of the sprawling 70 acre vacant plot. In the background slum clearance board apartments on the Ambedkar college road which leads to Vysarpadi.

20 more sprawling malls in Chennai coming-up soon

Chennai: Only three malls in the last 13 years but 20 in the next three, that's how Chennai's retail landscape is set to change with 81 lakh square feet of additional retail space.

The new malls want to cash in on Chennai's increasing cosmopolitan nature.

Says MD, Ampa Center One Mall, Ampa Palaniappan, "We had to refuse a lot of large brands. We have about 80 retail stores in the mall out of an an enquiry base of about 450 which have actually come to our office."

The reason for this demand could be that Chennai has only three malls or 8 lakh sq feet of retail space, so brands targeted at youngsters like McDonalds and Apple are waiting to make their debut in Chennai's new malls.

But why the sudden rush to build malls in Chennai? Well first, it's practically virgin mall territory with only three malls, among the lowest numbers for an Indian city.

Mumbai has 45 malls, the National Capital Region 42, Bangalore and Pune eight each and even Kolkata has six malls. So why has Chennai been late to catch up?

Experts say it was the conservative image of the city which had prevented malls from coming up. Now, that's being replaced by images of affluent youngsters working in the new economy.

Says Regional Director, Trammell Crow Meghraj, N Ananthanarayanan, "The service industry has picked up and it has given scope for a lot of young people to earn money at a fairly young age and they all want to spend."

The Tamil Nadu government estimates more youngsters will move to Chennai in the next three years, at least 5 lakh to work in the city's I-T, electronics manufacturing and automotive sectors. This would change perhaps not just the image but also the shopping habits of the city.

The Spencer Plaza, which started with a built up area of 3,00,000 sq ft, has now become the mega mall of city with 1.05 million sq ft. The pricing has gone up from Rs 18 to Rs 22 per sq ft per month in 1991 to the current Rs 60-100 per sq ft per month.

Royapettah Indian bank land

The Royapettah Indian bank building (on the junction of TTK road, Avvai shanmugam road and Gowdiya mutt road) was demolished a few months back. I had taken a couple of photos of that demolition. Still nothing has come up on this plot. Anybody has info on that?

NOKIA Telecom SEZ

Unfortunately, the ancillary units opening in Sriperumbudur Telecom SEZ has not caught the media attention.

Salcomp's €9-million plant at Sriperumbudur SEZ already rolls out 33 million chargers per year. Salcomp plans to double its capacity and will also export in the future.

Thumbs up MTC to introduce Volvo buses

Quote:
The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) is all set to launch a fleet of air-conditioned Volvo buses. Two state-of–the-art buses have been acquired by the MTC. On Tuesday they were parked inside its depot on Pallavan Salai.

Managing Director R. Balasubramanian said eight more Volvo buses would be brought in this week and the fleet was most likely to be launched on September 17.

The buses were inspected by Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday. They would set off for the Secretariat on Wednesday for an inspection by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

The two buses at the depot bear the numbers 19 G and 21 G. Officials said that other routes, on which these buses would travel, would be announced soon.

The buses have electronic controls and are fitted with two cameras, one at the rear and the other at the main entrance. The cameras would allow the driver to view the rear and entrance through an LCD display fitted near the driver’s seat. The officials at the depot said that this would help the driver control the doors and view those who were waiting to enter the bus.

Another special feature of the buses is that that they are completely disabled-friendly. The main entrance of the bus has a ramp and a ‘healing’ system which allows the bus to bend up and down as well as tilt to the left side.

Officials said that this would enable not only the disabled people but also old people to get into the bus without much difficulty. The fact that the driver could view all the activities near the door on the LCD display would also allow easy and safe access into the bus for all. According to Mr. Balasubramanian, the fare for travel in these buses was yet to be fixed. http://www.hindu.com/2007/09/12/stor...1260900300.htm

Most definitely it will be one of the best designed bulidings in India. It has been designed by 2004 Pritzker Architecture Prize winner(biggest prize in Architecture) - Zaha Hadid Architects. They are the ones who have designed prominent bulidings in Europe including the BMW central buliding in Leipzig.

Chennai Tech Park looks cool, i saw there advt. board opposite to Orchid building. BTW i was in the estate the other day Chennai Tech Park has reached 8th floor. Looks big!!!!
That's great.I checked it out couple of weeks back and at that time around 5 floors were done. But only the 1st phase would be ready by the year end.The entire building, in my opininion, would be completed by mid 2008. I hope that the authorities get thier act together and take measures to reduce the dust in ambattur estate area.
